Bob's Bar-B-Que Restaurants on the Dillingham Boulevard nearby City Square and the adjacent big-chain-restairants of McDonalds, Taco Bell, and Burger King, represent all that is right with the Hawaiian Islands, the Island of O'ahu, in addition to the City and County of Honolulu.
Food Quality: 102 of 10. I generally order the New York Strip Steak Medium-Rare with the two balls of white rice, and a medium fountain drink of Coca-Cola Classic with 'light ice'. The first time I ordered this menu item, and was recently freshly removed off a flight originating at EWR-Newark, New Jersey Liberty International Airport, the vicinity of in which I had more or less been stationarily employed and leasing housing in for the previous decade, and decade before that. I was simply astounded at the quality of the cut of meat, the expert grilling, and the uncommon elsewhere but true to Hawaii pairing of this steak and white rice. Add Aloha Soy Sauce and you can truly have found paradise.
Seating & Ambiance: While it may be common in Western, Midwestern or Southern states, for a fresher of New England settings, the outdoor seating arrangements add such an unbeatable additional feature to the restaurant: while goldfish tanks, televisions broadcasting area sporting teams, edge to edge window views, ambient lighting, acoustic planning, overly comfortable and versatile seating may be common features of addition to restaurants other than Bob's Bar-B-Que Restaurants, this Dillingham Blvd favorite has an unparalleled additional feature: Hawai'i.
Pricing: Costing monetarily about an increase 10-15% of a comparable fast food restaurant meal.
Location: With it's proximity to all three of the Moslem houses of worship which legally are known to exist in the Hawaiian Islands eaccording to Kalihi, Iwilei, Honolulu Capitol District, a range of persons representative of these demographics the named places represent are the usual suspects in O'ahu.
Additional Remarks: Kokua (co-operation) and Pono (good) of Hawaii state residents is overwhelmingly apparent here. These 'aloha & mahalo' people so often omitted, ignored, forgotten in states as varied in culture and climate, as far and as wide as: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West...
Read moreVERY local eatery! This is not a Southern US BBQ kinda place! This is more like Korean style BBQ and local grinds with a touch of southern fusion. A friend shared this place with us and said it was a very popular stop with the locals. The business looked a bit dated and well-used, it is located on the corner, and has only outdoor dining on bolted down wooden picnic tables under fluorescent garage lights. And there are only 3 tables. The parking lot is tiny. The service was friendly but curt, and our order came out fairly quickly. About a 10 minute wait for a juicy, tasty Steak El Paso plate and my fresh Fish Sandwich and side of fries. This was probably the best fish sandwich I've ever had! The fish was deep fried in a light coating of cornmeal. It was topped with a southern fusion style coleslaw and a dab of mayo mix. The ratio of fish and slaw to the sweet tasting bun was perfect! The sandwich was tender, juicy, sloppy, made with fresh fried fish, and held together by a beautiful, perfectly spongy bun. This sandwich was aces!!! And only $5 and change. Absolutely cannot beat that! The steak plate came with rice, 2 pieces of big steak and a cup of slaw. When asked, I was told "it tastes AMAZING. And there's two big pieces of meat, and they're so juicy! The flavor is insane!" So there you have it, all that greatness for a grand total of $15 and some change. This place has now been designated as a "must stop" every time we're on the island. We arrived at Bobs around 800pm on a Saturday and business was steady the whole time. I did see people picking up pre-orders to go. Just a heads up, many of the people were ordering big here so it may be prudent to plan ahead. Also, it may be tricky for anyone in a wheelchair or with mobility concerns. The order window and picnic tables are on a wooden rise you'll need to step up on. But I imagine it's ok, just bring your big person voice and yell your order to them. I have a feeling they'll be more than ok with it. After all, like I said, VERY local and just the right amount of aloha. On a final note, there is a public transit stop (bus stop) not even 100 steps away! Talk...
Read moreMy family and I were on vacation to attend my daughter's graduation and decided to go to Bob's Bar-B-Que one day. We ordered several meals from the menu and were looking forward to enjoying our meals; but while our food was being prepared, I observed a piece of food fall from the griddle to the floor. To be honest, it looked like it was tossed so I decided to pay close attention to how my food was being prepared from that point going forward. While doing so, I noticed that the two cooks and sous chef begin to look disturbed that I wouldn't stop watching their performance as if they had intended to pickup and place the fallen food back onto the griddle to be served. Not on my watch, is what I thought. We finally received our order and to be honest, the food was mediocre at best. From my experience, I will personally never visit Bob's Bar-B-Que again as my trust level is very, very low at this point and not to mention, I didn't appreciate how the door and windows were wide open with a filthy dumpster approximately 30' away. I took the liberty to report my observations to the Hawaii Health Department to make sure a formal complaint...
