If you want something healthy and you're trying to lose weight...this is the wrong place. But if you want some delicious rich ramen broth then you have struck gold..or should I say you have struck Golden Pork!

On our recent trip to Oahu a local friend recommended this place. And it most definitely did not disappoint.

Like most places in Hawaii parking is a bit difficult. But once you walk in compared to most Hawaiian places it's actually fairly good-sized. But the real pleasure is when you get your Ramen.

My kids had the Original Ramen and I had the spicy miso. They are both outstanding. The base broth is super rich and creamy. So much so that the broth is able to clean onto the noodles. Some spicy miso ramens actually have a spicy ground pork mixture. This does not, but just spicy miso paste. Normally this would have disappointed me. However in this case, the broth was so rich it did not need any additional pork. I believe that Tonkatsu Ramen uses melted pork lard inside the soup. This place must use extra. I can imagine that if the soup were to cool down it would actually coagulate. This Ramen is probably not so good for your heart but your tummy will love you for it.

I would have rated this place a 5, however the chasu was not as tender as it could have been. We also had an appetizer of gyoza and cucumbers. Gyoza ok. Cucumbers lacked flavor. Not marinated, but rather had spicy chili oil drizzled.

For the Ramen alone we went...

Golden Pork Ton-Kotsu Ramen Bar Overall: * Highly Recommended * Food: * Value: ** Menu: ** Ambiance: * Service: ** Parking: * 6 stalls or street meters

At a networking event, a bunch of us were discussing who had the best Ramen and John recommended Golden Pork Ton-Kotsu Ramen Bar, specifically the Black Garlic Original Ton-kotsu ramen

I tried it and it was delicious! It is now one of my top 2 ramens, along with Kamitoku’s Beefy Wild. This is a winner, if you like the rich pork broths. If you prefer the healthier and lighter shoyu broths, you may have to look elsewhere.

The Golden Pork Bun was also a winner! Tender, delicious and freshly made.

I was surprise to see that they have a good selection of Japanese dishes and alcohol beverages. I will definitely be going back for Izakaya dishes and drinks.

There is a Japanese woman working here checks your vaccination status very seriously and scan your barcode. I'm not saying checking your status very carefully is bad thing I rather appreciate it for our safety.

However, as soon as we came to the entrance, she hand gestured and pointed to the sign that says "Show us your ID and Vaccination Proof' And didn't speak at all until she completed status check. And she spent few minutes to go through all information and compare one by one from the top of your ID and card. Since we just landed from CA, I showed her my governments safe travel page and my drivers license that all information she needs was there. After she 'approved' us to enter, she showed obvious frustration while she is taking us to table and she said "I can't find your birthday tho!'.

She acted as if we are trying to fake our status and she insisted on confirming all information one by one.

Again, I rather appreciate that their careful status check, but problem was her disrespectful behavior and not welcoming/friendly environment where being treated like a criminal.

We felt as if we were being investigated at a police station and being accused of a crime we did not commit, so we gave up eating. We decided to leave the restaurant.

If you want to simply enjoy your meal without being investigated seriously, I would recommend to go to another restaurant out there. Hawaii offers tons of other...

Let me just start off by saying that since Goma ichi closed, I've been going to AGU. No more! I was recommended Golden Pork by a co-worker, and after finding out where it was, I discovered that it's really close to my residence. Everything that I've had there has tasted better than Agu and the prices can't be beat either. There's a wide selection of sake from what I've seen (but I don't drink alcohol, so that's a moot point). I haven't had an opportunity to try all of the appetizers, but I really do recommend the golden pork buns. They're so good that if you order the 2 piece plate, you won't want to share. As far as the main courses, so far I've had the classic and black garlic ton-kotsu, and my girlfriend had one is the tsukemen dishes. Those are the first bowls of ramen that made me finish all of the broth since I was in Japan. That's how good they were. Lastly, don't forget to get a stamp card and be a complete hipster, and post to Instagram! Get a free ramen or tsukemen after every 10 stamps!

I would have given 7 stars if Google has the golden buzzer. Visited here on Dec 26, being the 2nd customer when they opened at 5pm. When we were waiting outside, we can only see the ramen menu, but once inside, wow the menu is so great. We ordered 7 items and found out it was happy-hour. We have beer, scallops, tantan tofu salad, spicy cucumbers, fried chicken, classic ramen and 2 pork belly buns as “dessert”. It was only USD$53. How can this happen in Honolulu these days in 2023? Food and taste are awesome. Real Japanese chef making good menu. But if you are looking for a fine dining experience, walk away. This is real tasty “hole-in-the-wall” place. Expect this place to be the equivalent Japanese burger joint, accept the fishy smell when you walk in, accept customers talking loud, accept the parking is not easy to find. Come eat at 5pm when they open. Your reward is your belly full of tasty food and a happy foodie-girlfriend !!!!
