This establishment used to be one of our favorites when visiting Waikiki. All anticipation for a great meal and entertainment vanished.
What happened? Who changed the secret recipe? What was once a the star of the movie, faded into obscurity. To say my experience was bad is an understatement. Where do I start?
Service right off the bat was bad. I ordered a Diet Coke and a beer. The server offered me the option for a glass or can, I indicated can and I received a glass. Okay, minor error no foul. I asked for a Diet Coke as well. The soft drink came out flat, no carbonation. When I mentioned it to the server, instead of taking it back he opted to tell me that here in Hawaii they use sugarcane which alters the taste of the soda. Hmmm! I repeated that it was flat thinking he would know what I meant, his bewildered look let me know he didn’t. I further explained that it had no carbonation….no bubbles to simplify. He returned with a nice carbonated Diet Coke. Also, thinking about this….how would using sugarcane in my Diet Coke, make it a diet soda. If I’m wrong with this assumption please share your thoughts.
We finally got around to ordering food. Since it was still Happy Hour, we decided to order the nachos which were on the Happy Hour menu. More about this at the end wrap up. We also ordered the Loco Moco, my favorite, and the Kalbi salad, hope the salad name is correct. It’s basically a steak salad. Each of these entrees we have had on our previous visits.
Okay this brings me back to the basics of being a server. We asked that the appetizer come out first. All the food came at the same time. Nothing annoys me more, and the server certainly didn’t find anything wrong with it. His only response when we mentioned it was “Oops “.
The steak on my wife’s salad was charred to the point that it looked like jerky. My Loco Moco was much of the same. My hamburger was charred and dry. The nachos were unappetizing and we didn’t even eat a quarter of them.
Again, the server was so aloof to the situation that my frustration got to the point where I just asked for the check. With tip it came to a little over $100. To my astonishment, the nachos and beer which were supposed to be Happy Hour prices were charged at regular prices. I know, why would you tip or pay for bad food. Well folks, sometimes you have to pick your battles, and I’m choosing not to die on this hill.
So if ShoreFyre cares about the experiences of their customers please reach out to me and we can have that discussion. I’m in customer service and an advocate for the consumer.
I will retract and delete my previous 5 Star review and will leave this less than favorable review.
I’m no longer recommending your establishment to friends and family. I hope you take your customer sentiments and use them to improve overall...
Read moreI recently visited Shorefyre to celebrate my sister’s 21st birthday with a party of 10. We had a reservation for 8 PM, were seated at 8:32 PM, and spent over $600 during our time there. Unfortunately, the evening left a sour taste due to the abysmal treatment we received from the staff.
While the food was incredible, the service was far from acceptable. Our server was pleasant at first but slow and inattentive—our water glasses remained empty, and we had to flag her down for basic service. Despite this, we were patient, understanding they might be busy. However, what transpired at the end of our meal was beyond disrespectful.
As we were splitting the bill, the staff began pressuring us to leave, stating they were closing—even though we had just spent a significant amount of money. It felt like they couldn’t wait to flip the venue into a nightclub, which clearly took priority over treating their paying customers with dignity. We were the only group on the balcony, isolated from the rest of the restaurant, yet they rushed us out as if we were a nuisance.
What’s worse, the server, who had been nice earlier, joined in with the rest of the staff in urging us to leave immediately after we had paid. This was shocking and unnecessary, as we were trying to finish settling the bill. It was clear we were being treated as an inconvenience, not as valued guests. For a party celebrating a once-in-a-lifetime occasion, this was a crushing disappointment.
I’ve reviewed many establishments across social platforms, and this is hands down the worst experience I’ve ever had with service. To spend over $600, only to be treated rudely and rushed out like this, is unacceptable. For anyone considering this place for a special occasion—be warned. While the food may be great, the service is a gamble, and you might find yourself being hustled out the door when their...
Read moreWe had dinner here last month when visiting Waikiki. The food was very good and the portions were quite large. The drinks were also generous in size.
The Mauna Kea Nachos were excellent and there was almost too much for an appetizer. The Grilled Salmon was prepared as expected and had great flavor. We also enjoyed the Steak Tacos.
The restaurant has a modern beach-y feel and the decor fits the theme quite well. The space was mostly clean, but we did find that the table they sat us at was quite sticky, and there was some food on the floor under the table that hadn't been cleaned up from prior guests. The rest rooms were very small and have a weird lay out, but were clean.
Service was acceptable, but not as good as one would expect at a higher-priced restaurant. We did not have a reservation when we arrived and were told there would be a 10-15 minute for a table. After the wait, we were escorted to our table only to see that they had more than a dozen tables available, so the wait for a table seemed a bit odd. Our server immediately took our drink order, but there was a very long wait before they were delivered. We then had a very long wait for the server to return to take our order. And while the appetizer was delivered quickly, we had another long wait for the entrees to be brought out. Our drinks had run out and we were nearly finished eating before the server stopped to check on us. Service staff were friendly.
I knocked a star off the review because this establishment added two fees to our check. Neither fee is disclosed on the menu, nor were they mentioned by the server before we placed our orders. They added a 1.5% BO Service Fee and then a 3% Credit Card Surcharge. I'm not opposed to fees as long as they are clearly disclosed before I place my order. I don't appreciate finding out about them after I've already...
