I've been eating here since I was a kid and huong lan is definitely my go to pho place. Customer service is always great and you leave feeling full and satisfied. This place does get pack but it's worth the wait. I really like their broth compare to other pho places. Big difference in the color of the broth. When you eat pho you MUST eat it with nuoc béo. (scallion oil). it's the oil that collects on the surface of the pho pot while it's cooking. It adds more flavor and richness to the pho and you don't need to add a lot. Just a small fair amount is good. The pho will taste so much better when you add this in.
I've been to a lot of pho places and no places compare to huong lan's pho or nuoc béo. Seriously. I highly recommend this place to anyone. My boyfriend and I eat here once a week and that's like our weekend routine :D gotta...
Read moreI'm a fan for early open, light pho, and good sate. There's a parking garage, a strange journey to the restroom with a questionable key blade, and there was vietnamese music playing at the door on someone's spare phone. As a native of San Jose, Ca and grewing up with vietnamese friends, I'd say I have consumed a fair share of pho. The pho here is well-balanced, not too cinnamon-y, peppery, or punchy in any way. [Optional: can ask for "nuoc beo" - scallions in oil - add for richer taste]. As I grow older, I love lighter foods as a whole and this placed served well. The sizes of bowls in Hawai'i are significantly smaller than California, so grab a size up if you're used to fat bowls. Drinking water is clean. Love that they don't skimp on saw leaves. Will...
Read moreWe tried this restaurant after reading positive reviews...it's quite a walk from the center of downtown Honolulu so our hopes were high for a positive experience. The pho comes in 3 sizes, medium, large and extra large. Two of us opted for the large combination while the third member of our party tried a beef / vegetable plate sans rice or noodles. My initial impressions were good; the broth is clean and has a depth of flavor without being overseasoned. The noodles weren't overdone...my only negative were the protein... not much flavor...just okay. Was it good? Yes, it was. Would I go back when there are other pho restaurants closer to our office? Maybe not...perhaps another visit is in order. It was full when we got...
