UPDATED Hours: now open on Wednesdays and Fridays. If you’re on Oahu and in need of gluten-free baked goods, you’ll want to add this bakery to the very top of your list. You can buy all the breads and pastries to hold you over for your time on island. BUT **call ahead** first to ask what the latest hours of operation are because Google isn’t accurate. I was over the moon to find a gluten-free bakery on the island. Still, I wasn’t sure if it was a dedicated GF kitchen or a regular bakery (wheat) with a GF selection. To be clear, this is a dedicated GF kitchen and bakery. Everything is GF, with options for vegan or keto friendly muffins. I swung by to check it out and was pleasantly surprised to find a huge selection of goods. Susan (the owner) and Cooper were great! Cooper took the time to explain all the offerings to me—from the baked breads, rolls, sandwiches, teacakes, and pastries. I bought a little bit of everything and here’s what I found: amazing! The breads, sandwiches, and cakes were all delicious. Since discovering my gluten-intolerance, I haven’t had to worry about gaining weight from a bakery splurge. Because where is there a dedicated GF bakery? Time to worry again because the cinnamon rolls and teacakes alone will add five pounds to the waistline! When I travel, I find a gluten-free bakery, buy some bread, and take it around with me for the rest of the trip. I now do this with this bakery, though I live here. You can find this bakery on Saturdays at the Kaka’ako Farmers Market. If you arrive early, you’ll be able to bag a breakfast sandwich—and they sell out super quick. Edit: I’ve ordered two birthday cakes and have sampled everything this bakery offers. Everything is outstanding! Highly recommend!

We were so lucky to to have had Susan and Franceska provide our beautiful, delicious, and affordable wedding cake and cupcakes! We let Susan know our flavors and dietary preferences (vegan) before the tasting, and decided to go non-vegan for the wedding cake due to personal preference, but both options were delicious (and gluten-free of course). Susan had prepared many cupcakes of various flavor combinations for the tasting. As we chatted, it was clear how much she cares for and does for her surrounding community through her baking. Just a note - for the tasting, the cupcakes weren't necessarily aesthetic, but the final product was BEAUTIFUL! Franceska was very helpful answering all of my questions via text regarding price, cupcakes vs. cakes, delivery vs. pick-up, etc, and when I gave her creative liberty with the flowers, she did an amazing job! We ended up coordinating with Franceska to have a friend pick everything up for us and it all went smoothly. We were very grateful for Susan and Franceska's support!

A hole-in-the-wall gem!! Make sure to check the days open ASAP, as we almost missed getting to check them out. We hit them up right before we flew home, because we HAD to try the only GF bakery in Honolulu!! We’re so glad we did. Their selection is not huge, but the few things we did try were so yummy!! My hubby really enjoyed the fresh sandwich you see pictured. I had the peanut butter and jelly cookie which was SO DELICIOUS!! And the white puffy thing-I forgot what it was called, but that was quite decadent as well!! I wish we had had more time; we would have went at least one more time and tried a few more items. I highly recommend trying Pu’uwai Bakery for yourself!! If you eat a GF diet, you’ll be SO happy you did.

I ordered a gluten free, dairy free, nut free, and egg free cake (due to multiple allergies in the family) and went to pick up the cake with my sister for my dads birthday. Susan was absolutely incredible. Her kindness, personalization, impeccable care and customer service was above and beyond anything I have ever experienced at any business before. She will go to every length to ensure your allergies are taken extreme care of. She uses the highest quality and fresh organic ingredients. The cake was phenomenal. She also had a variety of small cakes and cupcakes which were absolutely incredible and super flavorful. Best baked goods that I have ever had, rivaling my mother who is a baker of 10 years. Susan was amazing. You will not regret visiting!! She is phenomenal and so are her baked goods!! It was so good that we left a big tip!! Definitely a must stop for any baked goods!! You would never know it is gluten free. A must stop regardless of any allergies. No one in our group had any allergic reactions at all, as she takes extreme care to make her kitchen safe. She also makes her own homemade flours, not using a 'meh' box mix like bobs red mill. Her homemade flours require hard work and pay off as the flavor is impeccable!

She also grows her own decorative beautiful flowers!!

THANK YOU SUSAN!! 8:32...

My son has multiple allergies (wheat, egg, peanuts, tree nuts, dairy and soy) so we often have a hard time finding a celebration cake that he can enjoy. We are from CA and were in Oahu for his birthday. Before arriving to Oahu I reached out to Susan and team to see if we could get him a cake. They said it could be done. Hurray! And we agreed on pickup on Monday outside of their operating hours (they are closed Mon). This wasn't what stood out to me though...

On the morning of pickup Susan called me to tell me that she wasn't 100 percent confident that her overnight staff had used vegan ingredients and wanted to remake the cake to be safe. She said she needed 2 hours to redo it. She called again to tell me it was finished and her team went beyond to greet me at the store outside of their hours (closed on Mon). The little bakery was just a few miles outside of the Waikiki area.

The cake flavor was phenomenal (guava strawberry) and delicious! His options are limited and we've tried other bakeries on the mainland that were able to accommodate his allergies and most times we find that the cakes are dense or lacking in flavor. This cake was moist, beautiful and delicious even for the family who does not normally eat vegan, GF, DF, etc. Thank you...
