Went to this establishment for the last time on Saturday, February 4, 2023.

Definitely not how I remember it, from before Covid.

The female bartender was super sweet though.

The male bartender that was present was rude to me and the people I came with. Calling us "transplants" and "non-hawaiians". When that definitely was not the case. Tried to clear the air with him, and he proceeded to tell another party who was of African-American descend, that I called their party the "N" word, which absolutely never happened because I'm a mother to African-American children. But it caused me to get jumped outside by the African-American party, from which I was screaming at them about my mixed children while I was repeatedly getting hit the the head. Seriously didn't need any of that drama, and the most embarrassing part, my party and I were probably there for 30 minutes or so and Smith's Union was the only bar I drank at the whole night because I just wanted to sing karaoke, but then I ended up being a temporary resident of...

The bar itself is fine - you get a good mix of dive bar locals. Your problems gonna be the c*nt of a bartender. It took 40 minutes to be served and it was only because a local forced her to do it. It felt like she hated everyone in the joint!

When she couldn’t figure out how to charge my card, she blamed me and started screaming like a banshee, as though her inability to do her job was somehow my fault.

Some decent local had to help me out. Craziness. I was later told that she’s the new owner. After watching 3 seperate groups leave because they weren’t being served, I’d be surprised if the bar is open by September. Definitely go...

I have never had to write a review like this before and I was excited to see this bar after going to see Pearl Harbor and learning more information about our country and the role of this bar. Unfortunately, we were verbally assaulted by a bartender saying, “f$&k$!g tourists” under his breath and yelling bitterly after me,” You’re welcome!!!!!!!” when I decided I did not want to stay and buy a drink. I was afraid to stay, and he continued to yell after us as we left. Horrible representation of such a historic bar. Sad and ...

Great bar for refreshments, none better for history & celebration! The drinks are generous pours, the beer variety plentiful & more reasonably priced than anywhere else I have visited in the Greater Honolulu Area. The owner (Dwight) is a solid patriot, US Army & Navy Veteran. He and his staff are good friends of the 'Greatest Generation' and their sacrifice & examples! I am grateful for the keeping of this treasured history & friendly establishment! This is a destination I return to for such refreshment & celebration whenever I can.

I was out and about basically reminiscing. This bar was the 1st bar my mother worked at and this is before I was born. Matter of fact She met my dad there He was Navy. She'll talk about how hard it will be trying to convince a man that he's been cut off? She said " I felt more like a bouncer then a bar maid". She'll say the importance of taking care of a man in uniform, especially if they are far from home. Never take advantage because they are drunk and don't soak them out of what may need to go home. Wisdom to live by..

My wife and visited Smith Union Bar today and what a great visit thanks to the bartender Shannon. He talked to us for well over an hour telling us about a sailor name Joe George who got the last 6 sailors off the Arizona. The story brought tears to our eyes and his as he told the story of heroism and a life time of not being recognized. The bar is a dive bar with many interesting photos but it was Shannon that made this visit special and be sure to have a fireball.
