I walked in the store. The staff Was extremely friendly and courteous. I ordered the chicken with brown gravy and mushrooms along with greens cornbread and macaroni and cheese. Meat and 2+ one Moore side is 1599. Plus a drink. My total bill with a two dollar tip was $22.64. The overall experience as far as the atmosphere was great the dining room was nice and clean but the chairs for big people is not comfortable at all and made my experience not as well as I had hoped. Overall food experience. Not very satisfied nothing was as hot as probably what it should’ve been or as fresh as it could’ve been considering it was lunchtime when I went. I had to get an order of fried green tomatoes with my order so that I could try it because the place was called fried green tomatoes. The fried green tomatoes had appeared that been cooked prior to my walking in and they’re not as conventional Fried green tomatoes because they were battered in a batter that was like fish batter. And not the usual cornbread batter that I have grown accustomed to. The food was not really seasoned as well as I was hoping so. The greens were really good, but nothing else seemed to have the good flavor that you would expect from a soul food restaurant. In my humble opinion, today’s experience was not a good experience for someone who knows the Southern Flavor for cooking southern food. The price was too high for me to be honest. And also if I was gonna leave a tip for anybody, It should have been to a server to help serve me drinks and take my trash up as I was finished. In this restaurant, if you give a tip, you give a tip to whoever is in the kitchen. I would imagine that makes more than what a server would make. So in my humble opinion, a tip is obsolete in this restaurant and should not be asked because there is no server to take care of you. You get your own drink and you take your own trash to...
Read moreGood atmosphere, clean and sharp-looking decor with a rather formal crowd. Got the catfish with mashed potatoes and gravy, fried green tomatoes and the jalapeño hush puppies with a large sweet tea. The general vibe I got from this plate was that the food was generally devoid of flavor. The catfish had no detectable seasoning of any kind, very cafeteria feel to it; perhaps it's not one of their most popular items. The mashed potatoes were very good and chunky with plenty flavor, the gravy was very flavorful, the tea is great, but the hallmark item I am sad to say left something to be desired. The fry was done with batter, not cornmeal, and no additional seasoning was present. Good consistency to the tomatoes, however. Would recommend as a good spot to take your boss/clients. Very business-minded atmosphere, and I don't think any of these white people really mind the lack of seasonings, so they should be fine here in Hoover I guess. In closing, I would like to addthat the hush puppies were the wrong consistency, they accidentally made cornbread. Also, my food was instantly ready; I do feel some type of way about paying $22 after tip for food that obviously was prepared in advance, sitting on low heat for some unspecified amount of time. Tartar and ketchup, utensils and drinks all readily accessible for customers, fast service, decent food and a ticket price that keeps put low-lifes, so overall I WOULD recommend trying this place although it would be good if there was a little more effort put into the dishes.
P.S. how do you call it a hush puppy...
Read moreI was very disappointed in the meal. I was really compelled to try this place because of the reviews, and I was not please at all. I took my wife because she loves fried green tomatoes and I can say , I had to apologize to her continually after we left. But like they say, " you live and learn." I ordered the chicken fried steak and I have never had it fall apart on me like that before, it was so mushy. I could not finish it and the taste was so bland. I would have to assume that they already have it prepared and not cook to order, because our food came to the table about 3 minutes after we sat down. You can't even get your food in 3 minutes at the waffle house. So we had red flags go up after that record breaking food preparation, especially because of what we ordered. The reason for the visit was to let me wife experience some good southern style home cooking and that !!!!!!!!! was not good southern style home cooking. Needless to say, we will not be back. It was a bad experience. Proceed...
