My favorite tacos in the Birmingham area. Outstanding Tacos al Pastor, Tacos de Barbacoa, and Tacos de Alambre. The Tacos de Carnitas are very good as well. The Tacos Al Pastor have their own sauce that is sweet, sour, and spicy. The pineapple mixes well with the meat. The Alambre seems to have beef, chopped bacon, bell peppers, onions, and cheese all grilled to a delicious crisp. Their tortillas are also the best in town, homemade with corn flour, they are decently thick and soft.
The dark salsa roja has a deep smoky chipotle flavor with a spicy bite at the end. The salsa verde is sour and tangy with a full tomatillo flavor. The mint green salsa is very mild and smooth, very herbal tasting. The vinegar, onions, and habanero mix is bold and bitter, not for the faint of heart. I prefer my Al Pastor tacos with the salsa verde, a little bit of salsa roja, and a little of the habanero vinegar mix. I like the Carnitas tacos with the mint green salsa.
The Pollo Tamales are good too.
The tacos de asada, tacos de chorizo, tacos da adobada, tortas, and empanadas were good too but not as good as the other stuff.
Delicious Guacamole, I prefer it with a little salt added. The tacos are large and the empanadas are HUGE. The price to food ratio here is excellent. They also have live music on Friday nights sometimes. If you like authentic Mexican food, don't...
Read moreWell I ordered the gringa plate it was good little bland my husband ordered a 3 meat fajita plate and nachos...the nachos lacked meat and I understand its supposed to be authentic but the partially raw non flavored potatoes in the nachos really threw it off in my opinion....the meat on the meat plate yes the shrimp came with tails still attached and the steak was a thin flank cut with no seasoning at all and it had a gamey taste to it...it was not a good taste...the chicken was ok...we also ordered mango water which was super sweet I dont know what they put in it but it was too sweet. We are frequent mexican food diners and have been almost everywhere in the area including taco trucks...not impressed with this place....the manager was very nice and understanding we didnt eat the one dish an didnt take it with us and he did take it off our ticket...we probably will never go...
Read moreGreat place with authentic mexican food and great variety of Mexican food. From an ambiance perspective the walls are adorned with fun Mexican sayings and famous locations in Mexico and has great rancheras, corridos, and other Mexican music. For those of us looking for cabeza, tripas, chicharron, etc you can get your fix in taco, gordita, burrito, torta, quesadilla format. Aguas frescas, imported Mexican coke, and jarritos amongst drink options. I gotta say as a south Texas transplant, this place feels like a little slice of home. The place is a little small, but I love to bring the family or order delivery if we don't feel like going out. Not sure if the workers are family, but it definitely has an unassuming mom and pop shop...
