Update 8/18/2017: Management never got back to me about being overcharged
Today I and my mother went to Memphis Barbecue Co. for the first time and for the most part it was okay but there was an issue. The issue started with our server Kirsten, when she took our sandwich order I made the statement "All burgers and sandwiches come with fries so for my side I'll.." She interrupted me and said "No, that's a side and you only get one side item".
So I chose fries and mom chose BBQ beans, for our sandwiches mom ordered a regular Pulled Pork sandwich and I ordered the Memphis Burger which comes with 6oz. of pulled pork or sub for brisket(SEE PIC BELOW), she never asked which one I wanted. When I got the check I noticed "Memphis Brisket Burger" was listed, that's not what I ordered but I was charged for the wrong item.
No big deal, I brought this up with our server, I showed her the receipt, told her I didn't order the brisket and asked her to correct it. She said "Well they all come brisket now and that was the only option I found when I put in the order and the toothpick in the middle means its brisket"(SEE PIC BELOW). I showed her a picture of the menu on my phone where it was optional as a sub.(SEE PIC BELOW)
She replied "Well our online menu isn't the same as the menu here" I told her "No, this is the Horn lake menu so its right" she paused for a moment, smiled and said "I'm sorry" and just stared at me, she didn't correct it like I asked nor did she offer to correct my check. So I paid and left.
A few hours later I called the restaurant to ask them a few questions and tell them about my experience. The woman I talked to was named Jennifer.(Very nice, very helpful)
First I asked if burgers and sandwiches are served with fries and a side or served with fries or a side of choice(SEE PIC BELOW). I was told the latter, that's not made clear on the menu(AGAIN SEE PIC BELOW) most places give you two sides w/ a sandwich(even Tops BBQ).I was told fries are a "courtesy" and can be subbed for any side item and additional sides are extra. That's not a problem but again it needs to be made CLEAR on the menu and in PRINT. SERVED WITH FRIES OR ONE SIDE.
Next I told her about the issue of being charged for the wrong item and how it wasn't corrected. I asked her how could I tell if I was served pork or brisket. She mentioned that it would have been marked with a toothpick w/ a colored flag and that all sandwiches have a "burger pick" in the middle(because their tall). I told her I only had the "burger pick" and no other tooth picks (SEE PIC BELOW).
Jennifer apologized for being charged for the wrong item and for my server not correcting it when I asked. She then asked for my contact info so the manager could call me tomorrow.
In the end, okay food, poorly drafted menu, bad service from the server but good customer service when I called...
Read moreMy co worker and I were rather excited to try this place. We had driven by and the parking lot was full to the brim so we opted for a wee drive instead. We later circled back around, deciding that we would commit to the wait. I entered and was greeted by a chap that could have sold me micro machines. He asked if we wanted smoking, non smoking, or first avail. I didn't know we stepped back into the 80s, but definitely opted for the non smoking. Only smoking should be for the meats, veg, and cheeses. 50 minutes later our bums were in a seat. After reading other people's reviews, I opted for not telling anyone about my dietary restrictions. Other people's requests had been met with a bit of hostility. We had a brilliant server named Daniesha. She was calm and honest with us. We ordered the chips and queso first as she said the food would take quite awhile to come out. The chips that arrived were a glistening hot mess of oil. Once they sat for a spell they became gross and rubbery. The queso had good flavour but lacked anything special imo. Our lunches arrived, he had brisket and pulled pork with slaw, mac n cheese, and 3 bones. I ordered the sliced brisket and turkey with steamed veg, smashed taters and 3 bones. Let me again say that my service was great but the food was wicked sub par. Like middle mountains day old dry gas station bad. On my plate was a wee bowl of dead sea smashed taters (salty for those thst don't know), almost cooked veggies, and turkey + brisket jerky. The food was cold, dry, and lacked any sort of flair expected of a world champ. I6m glad there are bottles of bbq at the table as it became a drowning beverage for the meats. The ribs had a good rub, but were, cold, dry, and overdone. The brisket gave me the mouth feel of a quarter cup of white bread and thick peanut butter. The turkey was thinly sliced, once had good flavour but now had that crust of being left out. There was a triangle of corn bread that had the density of a neutron star. It had the mouth feel of eating flavourless cake mixed with half cooked polenta and nuts. The turkey, hog, and coo died of dehydration I think. Great sauces and wonderful marketing with the giant plastic cups. Disappointed in the...
Read moreSo I went in hoping this was going to be done great BBQ. Boy was I wrong. The staff was nice and the environment was great and alive but the food was severely lacking. When it came out it looked ok at first glance then I realized the pile of chopped stuff to the left of my plate was supposed to be the pork belly burnt ends. It was more like thick-cut bacon with sauce on it. The fat is supposed to melt in your mouth when you bite into it and the meat is supposed to have a nice soft smooth feel when biting into it. This was not the case. The brisket was dry and stiff. When you have great brisket it should fold over without breaking and still have moisture in it. This was almost like holding a piece of jerky in my hand. The fat that was on it still wasn't tender either. It did have a decent smoke ring but not much flavor plus they put sauce on it before I could even taste the brisket first. This should have been a giveaway sign to me. A place should always leave the brisket without sauce first so the customer can enjoy the flavor of the seasonings and smoke first then if they want add sauce. The green beans tasted like just boiled with onions and that's it. As for the red beans and rice. I've had better at Popeyes. The only decent thing was the cornbread. It wasn't dried out and falling apart. It held its shape and had a nice taste to it. Overall I was extremely let down. I paid almost 28 bucks for the meal and didn't even eat half of it. I took the rest with me but threw it away. I didn't want to seem mean to the lovely waitresses that had helped me. I did leave a to as she deserved it. Also, they do offer free pork rinds which were decent as well for what they were. For my first time trying BBQ in Mississippi, it was a...
