The food was great which is why it's so disappointing to say the service was horrible. Went there with a group of 9 for my best friend's birthday. We were seated fairly quickly although noone greeted us as we walked in. Our drink order was taken quickly and soon brought out. I wish I would have timed it but it was so long before someone came to take our food order. One of my party started to take our groups order on her phone hoping that would expedite everything. I inquired if our server had went on break or something because we hadn't seen him in a while. He shows up finally. My friend is telling him the orders she jotted down and he seemed to have a little attitude. The birthday girl is getting more and more agitated which is disheartening. We came to celebrate not feel like our business doesn't matter. We wait another long period and food starts to arrive. As my friends are getting thier dishes I'm told that they don't have the buns for the burger then asked if there was anything else I wanted. Unacceptable. I should have been made aware much sooner. I just ate off of my friend's plate because I didn't want to wait another long time. The birthday girl wanted us to express our concerns to management. A manager comes out. We tell express to him our concerns and displeasure with our experience there he basically just says that he was going to talk to his team. We asked if the birthday girl could get anything free since it was her event. He offered another slice of tres leches cake or chips and queso. She asked what about both? He said she couldn't get both because they had already given her a free piece of cake when they sang happy birthday. That came off rude to me because those 2 free items were not even asking for much. Not to mention we were given piss poor service and the restaurant wasn't even busy. They sure didn't forget to add gratuity to everyone's tickets though. I would try the restaurant again but not...
Read moreAfter a long day of helping friends, I went here last Tuesday night, around 9:30. It was my dates birthday. I ordered a frozen margarita with Gran Mariner topper and was bartender said that would cost 6 or 7 dollars extra but I could get a Gran Gold which has Gran Ma and tequila and it was a better deal. Not wanting to argue I said sure but asked him for less tequila and more Gran Ma but I watched him make the drink and he used a jigger and he gave me equal portions of each. I reminded him of my request and he said that he remembered. That was obviously a lie since he used a jigger to measure each pour. We ordered two appetizers but wanted one before the other. He let our nachos sit in food window for a long time and they were soggy. We complained and he said he was sorry and that he didn’t have any help. When he brought out the remainder of our food (one dish) he immediately apologized because the plate was very hot. I commented that it wouldn’t be so hot if the food wasn’t sitting under the heat lamps for so long. This was melted cheese and vegetables and and wasn’t very good. I asked to see the manager and he never came. I don’t think he was ever told we were unhappy and since it was my dates bday I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it. We finished our margaritas and asked for our check. Nothing was done about anything we complained about. The manager smiled at me as we left the restaurant and I told him that everything was horrible. I’m not Sure if he didn’t believe me but he just let us walk away. Probably won’t go back here. The margaritas are strong and taste pretty good. I think the frozen ones are made with everclear. That can be a good thing or a bad thing. I’ve had poor service here before but always wrote it off as just another Tex Mex joint with good drinks and decent grub but there are too many alternatives in a city the...
Read moreCyclone Anaya's Mexican Kitchen is an iconic family-owned and operated business in Houston, Texas. It was started by Jesús Becerra Valencia (known as "Cyclone Anaya," a legendary wrestler) and Carolina Berzeny (a beauty queen and Cyclone's Anaya's wife of more than 50-years). In 1966, after six years retired from the sport of wrestling because of a career-ending back injury, Anaya leased an icehouse at 1201 North Shepherd and started his restaurant brand. After Anaya passed away in 1981, his children took over the family business, and it has expanded to multiple locations across the city over the past 50+ years!
I have been frequenting Cyclone Anaya's since moving to Houston. I like this location at 1710 Durham Drive. There is a free private parking lot, and they offer valet as well. If the lot is full, you can find free street parking across the street. When entering the restaurant, you will find all sorts of mementos showcasing Cyclone Anaya and his family.
+Chips and Salsa - I like the complimentary chips and salsa they serve here. The salsa is flavorful and slightly spicy. - 4.5/5
+Roasted Jalapeño Margarita (1800 Reposado, Agave Nectar, Lime Juice, and Roasted Jalapeños) for $12 - Loved the spicy finish on this margarita. For an extra $3, you can make your drink a “jumbo.” This is a better value if you want to drink more. - 5/5
+Combination Fajita Al Carbon (Beef and Chicken fajitas served with caramelized onions, pico de gallo, sour cream, and cheddar cheese) for $35 - The medium-sized fajitas serves 1-2 people. The beef is tender and tasty. The chicken is good, but make sure to dress it up with the garlic butter and extras to level it up. - 4.5/5
