Good Day! I have been going to the"French Gourmet Bakery"ever since they once had a location on Memorial Drive in"Lantern Lane Center".This"Memorial" location served a lunch special daily as well as bakery goods. The lunch served was a delightful mix of varied choices. The bakery products for as long as I have been going seem to ALL have a "unidentified ingredient"...a "mystery ingredient"that has ALWAYS disagreed with my stomach. It is also available and included at the location on Westheimer in this locations bakery products.Every time I purchase a bakery item from cookies to cakes to pecan and cinnamon rolls/bread it is in everything waiting to upset my stomach! Whatever this"mystery ingredient"is that is being added to what appears to nearly everything I would strongly advise everyone to avoid this bakery and their made bakery items.I seldom have digestive issues but,"French Gourmet Bakery"every time I consume their bakery products my stomach is upset! It is CRAZY! There are so many fine bakery options and locations across Houston to obtain lovely bakery items, cakes, cookies, etc.that do NOT posses this"mystery ingredient"waiting to make you ill.Who wants to have a special occasion ruined and leave you with wondering...what happened...what made me feel this sickly? Another aspect of"French Gourmet Bakery"is how overpriced every item is to purchase! I made the mistake of getting "1-Eclair".It WAS $5.00!!! CRAZY!!! A "apple pie"is$24.95! I am a BIG lover of bakeries but,for safety and peace of mind as well as wanting children and the elderly healthy please avoid"French...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI order a ToGoodToGo bag and which is supposed to have left over of that day and I swear the 2 pieces of of the sweet bread given tasted 2 days old and then we bough a sourdough loaf and it was definitely not French quality as it was very light .. my husband is Austrian and we been to France and this is definitely not the quality expected if you know bread.
REPLY TO OWNER I understand itās the left over from the day as I have bought a few from other stores to try for 1st time .. which is I would think part of reason to participate is to get new customers
But we arrived 20 mins before closing and there were a lot more other better options to give in the surprise bag than the 2 pieces we got. Which to clarify that goodie bag is not free but it is $5.00 which is the cost of prob 1 if the pieces given of the 2.. or maybe that was a cheaper bread too as the other I liked was $5.00 in the store. If we would have received at least 1 good tasty piece I would have been happy. We even spend more money to support the business by buying the sourdough which we asked if it was sourdough and sales lady said yes. Instead of saying ācustomers like meā .. you mean 1st time customer that was unhappy with product - not my fault my 1st impression was not your best product as thatās what I was given to try. I did make a comment when I open the bag and said āaaawww wish I would of had one of these other piecesā - sales people did not say anything even thought it was only a few mins till closing with plenty of good...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSince I got married, I waited eagerly for the day that I would go to the French Gourmet. My wife and I, fans of all things baked, love visiting French bakeries whenever we happen upon one (e.g. Mademoiselle Louisse). We were sorely disappointed by this one. Upon entry, I was met by a man behind the counter who gets me with a frown and gruff attitude. Upon telling him what we wanted, he proceeded to hand us our baked goods, never once emoting past a frown. After paying for the items, my wife and I sat down to eat. Unable to find any silverware, I stood in line behind a lady who was buying a dozen or so cupcakes. The lady at the register, likewise, looked at me as if I was a vagrant asking for cash. Having finally procured plasticware, we began to eat. My wife's eclair tasted at least a day old, being soggy and stale. The chocolate was more sugar than cocoa and the filling was nothing special (especially for the price). My chocolate cake was nothing you couldn't find at an HEB (we recommend Katz's chocolate cake). Finally, the coup de grace was their frankly mediocre French "baguette". No crust (failed the ratatouille test). The crumb was spongy. The taste, nonexistant. We recommend Mademoiselle Louisse's true baguette. All in all, the French Gourmet left much to be desired and we will not...
