I have been coming to Gabby’s for decades and have always opted for the brisket and sausage 2-meat plate. About 3 weeks ago a guest I was with ordered the bar-b-que chicken and I was amazed at the quality of the cooking and the portion size. The chicken was so moist and was cooked to perfection.
So this past week, I decided to get the bar-b-que chicken 1-meat plate with 2 sides. My 2 guests also got the same thing and we ordered for take-out.
The time and date was 3:15 PM on 22-Dec-2018. And what we received was an abomination to bar-b-que lovers all over the world. All 3 orders of chicken were dried out and shriveled; it had been overcooked, but not burnt. Major bones had been sawed through, leaving bits of small bone in the surrounding meat. I am 63 years old and this was the worst bar-b-que experience of my life.
The responsible pit master should be discharged, or severely reprimanded. There is no excuse for bar-b-que like this in the state of Texas. If I had been in a Bar-B-Que mecca such as Llano or Lockhart, I would have called authorities to arrest this amateur for impersonating a pit master. No self-respecting pit master would serve dried out chicken like we received. In pursuit of profits, he/she abandoned all personal pride in his/her profession. Obviously, adherence to the delicate weight/time/heat relationship for quality bar-b-que chicken had been ignored. It was terrible!!!
I understand everyone can have a bad day occasionally, but if I ever receive bar-b-que chicken from Gabby’s like this again I will notify The National Registry of Bad Bar-B-Que Offenders. Trust me, if you are a Bar-B-Que restaurant proprietor, you do not want to be on this list!!! So QC your product Gabby’s!
On the positive side, the young woman at the front counter was friendly and efficient and made sure everything in the order was delivered. Also, the Red Beans with Cajun Rice side was simply outstanding. Outstanding, I Say!!! And the green beans had a little kick to them that I was not expecting. Nice!!! Very Nice!!! And the fried okra was just perfect---cooked...

This was a random stop for my family. We have a 6 year old and an 8 year old and they wanted chicken tenders for lunch as we drove 2.5-3 hours. I had Google Maps giving directions, so I quickly asked it to show 'chicken tenders along my route' and all sorts of things popped up - admittedly mostly Canes, Popeyes and KFC's - so when "Gabby's BBQ" popped up, it was an easy choice - as not everyone in the vehicle wanted chicken tenders.
I had a two meat plate (BBQ basics: brisket and sausage), the kids got their chicken tenders and my wife got a turkey sandwich and loaded Mac&Cheese.
The kids devoured their chicken tenders: so they must've been good. One had fries, the other subbed in Mac&Cheese.
I got a small bite of the turkey, it was moist and well smoked. She did finish it and the loaded Mac&Cheese (topped with shredded cheddar and bacon), so that must have been good.
I got red beans + rice and Mac&Cheese for sides. The beans are 'ranch style', good for me. The pieces of celery threw me off, but I ate around those chunks. Hah. The Mac&Cheese was creamy and good, and stayed that way. The sausage was a good middle of the road ground with a good flavor and the brisket was a little on the lean side for my liking, but with a good flavor and the charred outside piece (of the ones I got) showed that next time I should specify 'marbled' to see if they have it and the brisket would be even better.
Overall, a good meal and MUCH better than the other choices Google Maps was handing out. My son even said he wanted to eat there again some day - so that's high praise from someone who is as...
Read moreBeen going to Gabbys for years, since 2016. Yesterday i went in to redeem some of my Belly points free rewards; signed in and got my regular 5 points. Then one of the Spanish female cashiers tells me she can't redeem my points for a free meal because i didn't have my Belly card. I explained to her that i was downloading the app where it would allow me to redeem directly from the app, yet she argued me down & wouldn't even let me show her what i was doing in the app. Finally, i stepped to the side and one of the other Spanish male employee's came and helped me through the app and i was able to redeem. It wasn't busy at that time, there were two cashiers, and it was only one person next to me in line, and a few others sitting down eating, so i don't understand why she couldn't help me. I love Gabbys food; hence the reason I've been coming here so long, but the way this female employee rudely argued me down yesterday in front of other customers( which by the way was embarrassing) and didn't try to be of any help was extremely disappointing. It was as if though she didn't want to give me what i had earned. She attempted to make me feel cheap because i was getting a free meal, but i also purchased a baked potato with beef in addition to my free meal. Plus I've spent thousands with them through the years, so one little free meal or entree from to time shouldn't be a problem. Customer service should always be top notch when...
