Rarely do I give reviews and low star reviews are not common for me, but this one is earned and almost an SNL skit plus Seinfeld episode to be honest. Theme looks great with New England Chowder, Oysters, Stone Crab Claws, Fish and Chips. So here’s the SNL skit but unfortunately it’s true and hope they fix it. Bottom line: they serve barely luke warm soup and refused to give us spoons after the order was ready. Here’s what happened: they have a small dining room. No problem because right outside their place are plenty of tables. When they asked if we are dining in and they said there’s really no tables available; no problem, we said. We’ll just grab a table right “over there”. We sat within 50 feet of the restaurant. Then the order took a good bit of time, no problem. Fun venue.
Then the order comes and two bowls of chowder and other food. No spoons only forks and knives. We kindly ask, we need some spoons for the chowder please? The response was the SNL skit: no spoons for you because you couldn’t sit in our dining room so go find some from another restaurant. We went and asked other places for any spoon plastic, wood, anything. No luck. We go back and they have plenty of spoons and say “you must not have looked hard enough” as we are literally looking at a stack of spoons. It was funny if it our chowder wasn’t going from luke warm to cold on our quest for the holy spoon. Simple fix: just have some plastic spoons for the chowder. And, serve the food at least warm; preferably hot. And, change the chowder recipe to make it more authentic with more than a few tiny pieces of clam. And be nice and even nicer when a customer can’t understand how you can serve soup and refuse to offer a spoon. At least offer chopsticks. It would at least be funnier. I never thought I’d have to ask “do spoons come with...
Read moreI attended the POST grand opening way back when and enjoyed the raw oysters I got from Golfstrommen. Unfortunately they’ve since changed their concept and I would not recommend them. Sadly the oysters are still good, but the service is absolutely awful and does not fit their surroundings. Will not be going back. Maybe it is because of the high prices they charge, but the team here have done a very bizarre thing where they have tried to implement a normal restaurant experience in a food court. When I came to POST last weekend I wanted oysters and brussel sprouts. I did not have the time nor patience for a sit down meal- which is why POST was a solution that made sense for us. We ordered brussel sprouts from the sushi place next to Golfstrommen, and then went to Golfstrommen to order the oysters. After paying and giving a generous tip, I asked if we could sit at the bar seating since it was empty. The man I spoke with said no problem. A few minutes later the woman working came over and offered us menus. I said “no thank you, we’ve already paid and ordered. We were told we could sit out here and we’ll be getting food from another place as well”. She said “we don’t do that here. You can’t have other food and sit here”. So she made us take our plate of oysters and literally leave after giving her a good tip and asking permission to sit at the bar. We won’t be...
Read moreWe live downtown and walked over to try this place after seeing it nominated for one of the best new restaurants in the Tastemaker Awards. We started with King Fish Agua Chile, a beautiful presentation and so fresh, like spring in a dish. Then we had the butter-poached crab open-faced sandwich that could’ve fed 2–there was a generous portion with loads of flavor. The fish burger had a slightly spicy kick and was enjoyed by my partner, who rarely eats seafood. Both were served with house-made seasoned chips. The yucca fries were crunchy, and the sauce they came with was delicious. The chargrilled shrimp were as big as my hand. We ended the meal with an off-menu special, scallop crudo in fermented blueberries, a perfect dessert. I had leftovers and felt so full but without a heavy feeling. The vibe was chill and relaxed, and the cool architecture and neon lights made us feel like we were in a different city in a future utopia. Service was fast, attentive and our server was knowledgeable about everything and answered every question we threw at him. We will deff be back to try the rest of the menu, which often changes due to their pledge to sustainability and only wild-caught seafood....
