The artistic company is spectacular and the performances are wonderful and always a major delight to the eyes and ears. I am basing this rating on the business end of the organization. My friend and I have had season tickets together for a number of years (for her it's been decades, but I've only lived in Houston a handful of years). But since we're both over the age of 70 we have been unable to attend until this year, when we once again bought season tickets. Much to our surprise last night at the first performance we discovered our seats are not together!!!!! We both had tried multiple times to call to talk to someone about our request to make sure we were seated together. She talked to a real person after 5 calls, I however never did after many calls. But we both filled out our season ticket request with the other's name clearly written along with our payment. As two single women we feel we have been ignored and ostracized by the business/reservation department of HGO! Revised: today I received a call from Scott Ipsen, the Director of Patron Services. He apologized for the confusion and replaced all of our tickets with ones seated together for the rest of the...

Underground self-parking lot is a flat $15 for events and in the next building over. You'll have to cross the street where valets and taxis pick up and drop off directly. It took about half an hour to leave the garage after a show, which was much better than expected.
Seats are comfortable considering the venue. I went without my lumbar support just fine.
The slope at the orchestra level is good enough. Seats are staggered so that you are in between the two seats in front of you.
The projections box for translations is at the top of the stage, which is quite high. At Row J, my eyes were constantly up to read the translations and the actors were not in my peripheral view, so I felt like I missed many gestures and facial expressions. Perhaps Row N would be a nice compromise between seeing the performers' faces while also being able to more easily glance up at the translations without missing the story.
Seat 4 is probably the furthest out I would go on Orchestra Right or Orchestra Left because the side of the stage ends close to there. (See attached photo.) Any further and you might miss something happening in the back corner...
Read moreAttending the Houston Grand Opera at the Wortham Center for the first time was an absolutely astonishing experience. The performance of Madame Butterfly was nothing short of mesmerizing, bringing the opera to life with vivid displays that immersed the audience in the narrative. The Chinese actor in the lead role exhibited exceptional vocal prowess, leaving the audience in awe.
The entire cast displayed a level of professionalism that held my attention throughout the performance; I couldn't take my eyes off the stage, not wanting to miss a single moment. The dedication and practice evident in the opera singers, sustaining such intricate and powerful performances over extended periods, truly showcased their commitment to their craft.
I am genuinely amazed by the talent and artistry witnessed, and I highly recommend this show to everyone. It's a testament to the incredible dedication of the opera singers, and I look forward to returning whenever Houston Grand Opera presents something new. Bravo to the entire team for an unforgettable evening of...
