I have never had authentic Jamaican until I ate at Gud Food Kitchen! I drove all the way from Katy to come here for Jamaican Independence Day in August. I'm so glad I did! The food gave me life! My wife is from Aruba, and she hasn't had much Caribbean food here in the States. I know that Aruba and Jamaica have very similar cuisines, so I brought my wife a plate of Gud's Oxtail Rasta Pasta. She took a few bites and immediately teared up and said "This brings me all the way home." When your food is SO GOOD that it makes people cry and miss home, you KNOW you're good. That's probably why they're called "Gud Food Kitchen," because THEY'RE THAT GOOD! Oh, and their Rum Punch is THE BEST I've ever had. Again... authentic. Make sure you slide through and see Roland and Charece! Not only do they make amazing food, but Charece and Roland are such nice people, and as an added bonus the vibe of the restaurant is energetic!

I have frequented this establishment several times now and they are consistently GREAT. The most authentic Jamaican food I’ve had in Houston that reminds me of my visit to the country. Family owned and always friendly service. They never miss! In these pictures I ordered goat curry with rice and peas and cabbage, oxtails with rice and peas and cabbage, chicken patty, beef patty, plantains, and coco bread. All absolutely delicious and generous portions. Both meats were tender and the gravy is outstanding, not greasy and very well seasoned. Great price on the oxtails. I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant! I know people drive from all over to go to more well-known Jamaican places on the south side that tend to be hit or miss, but please check this one out! We are so lucky to have such great Jamaican food right here in the Cypress area!

Gud Food Kitchen: A True Taste of Jamaica

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the culinary delights of Gud Food Kitchen, an authentic Jamaican restaurant, and I must say, it exceeded all expectations. As someone hailing from the Caribbean Islands, the craving for a taste of home during the holidays led me to seek out a caterer for our family Christmas dinner, and Gud Food Kitchen delivered an unforgettable feast.

Catering for Christmas: A Joyful Experience

Opting for the convenience of a catered Christmas dinner, I enlisted Gud Food Kitchen to bring the flavors of Jamaica to our festive table. The menu included a tantalizing array of dishes, with the standout stars being the Jerk Chicken, Rasta Pasta, and a medley of other mouthwatering delights.

Authenticity that Hits the Spot

What truly sets Gud Food Kitchen apart is its commitment to authenticity. The Jerk Chicken had that perfect balance of smokiness, spice, and tenderness that one can only find in genuine Jamaican cuisine. The Rasta Pasta was a delightful fusion of flavors, showcasing the chef's expertise in marrying traditional and contemporary tastes.

Professionalism that Impresses

Beyond the delectable dishes, Gud Food Kitchen impressed with its professionalism. The entire process, from initial inquiry to delivery, was seamless. The staff exhibited a level of courtesy and efficiency that enhanced the overall dining experience. It was evident that they take pride in their craft and are dedicated to ensuring customer satisfaction.

Top of the List for Authentic Jamaican Cuisine

Gud Food Kitchen has rightfully earned its place at the top of my list for authentic Jamaican food. The flavors transported us back to the Caribbean, and the convenience of their catering services made our Christmas celebration truly special. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Gud Food Kitchen to anyone seeking an authentic and memorable Jamaican dining experience.

A Heartfelt Thank You to the Gud Food Kitchen Team

In closing, a special thanks to the kind and dedicated staff at Gud Food Kitchen. Your culinary expertise and warm service made our Christmas dinner an absolute delight. Gud Food Kitchen has undoubtedly become our go-to destination for a taste of Jamaica, and I look forward to indulging in their offerings again soon.

Cheers to Gud Food Kitchen for a Jamaican culinary...

Tried it for the first time today 10/5/24 and ordered 1 oxtail plate, and 1 goat curry plate, both with rice and peas and fried plantain. I called in my order in advance and said I was 20 mins away, The lady assured me it will be ready when I arrived.. I get there and the place and atmosphere was really nice. I was the only customer except for a couple dining in. Partially greeted by the lady I spoke to otp & ended up waiting awhile for my food even after being told it’ll be ready when I arrived.. the lady said 5 mins & I still wanted a good 10 mins then was told it’ll be 5 mins again a second time.. which to me is not right! Don’t give me an expectation if it isn’t at least somewhat accurate, just say “it’ll be ready soon” Anyway I get home to eat with my lady and we both agree that the meat was very skimped out on. I spent basically $50 for 2 plates just to mainly get rice and peas.. I’m from the Virgin Islands and I can confidently say that this was not authentic Caribbean food. It wasn’t down right nasty but it’s lacking the depth and true flavor of Caribbean curry and oxtail. It’s like a salty but washed/watered down version to me. I feel I wasted my money and should have went to my usual place The Caribbean Hot Pot.

The fried plantain was good, but then again those don’t really take skill or finesse to cook and hard to mess up. you just wait for the plantain to turn overly ripe almost rotten on the outside, peel, and slice them up, then fry. (Letting them get overly ripe makes them taste sweet) I know my review is an unpopular opinion and that’s fine.. I’m going to be honest though.

Anyway I probably won’t be...

A True Taste of Jamaica – Big Up, One Love! 🇯🇲

From the very first bite, it was clear—this was real Jamaican food. Rich, soulful, bursting with flavor, and cooked with love. If you’re looking for authentic island cuisine that hits all the right notes, look no further.

Jerk Chicken – Smoky, spicy, and perfectly charred. You could taste the pimento, thyme, and Scotch bonnet in every bite. Moist on the inside, fire-kissed on the outside. This was not some watered-down version—this was the real deal.

Brown Stew Chicken – Tender to the bone, simmered in a deep, savory gravy with sweet bell peppers and onions. The sauce alone could make you dance. Comfort food that wraps you up like a Caribbean sunset.

Rice and Peas – Creamy, perfectly seasoned, and cooked with coconut milk and just the right touch of garlic and scallion. Not just a side dish—this was soul food, pure and simple.

Plantains – Golden and caramelized, sweet with a little crisp on the edge. A perfect contrast to the spice of the jerk and the richness of the stew.

Cabbage – Steamed down with just enough seasoning to keep it light, but still full of flavor. It tied the whole plate together beautifully.

Rum Punch – Tropical, fruity, and dangerously smooth. The kind of drink that sneaks up on you with a smile. One sip and you’re instantly on island time.

Every element of the meal felt like it came straight from a Jamaican kitchen—no shortcuts, no imitation. Just real, authentic flavor and love in every bite.

One Love from...
