We saw Irma's on the Food Network a few years back and wanted to go ever since. The food looked so amazing on the show and trust me, it tasted just as amazing. I remembered from the show that they don't have menus, so unlike some of the other reviewers, we expected that. It really is not a big deal. If you aren't sure what you want, use the online menu as a guide. They have all the usual Mexican items you'd expect. The servers are also very perceptive so if you don't know what you'd like, they'll help you :)
So we took a LYFT ride up to the restaurant, but it has a good sized parking lot. The outside of the building is beautiful. When we walked in, the seated us immediately. The place was lively but not crowded. Our server (which I'm really sad to not remember her name, she was super nice) asked us if this was our first time, which it was. She sat us in a really nice area with great décor. I could see the kitchen from where I was and it smelled amazing. The atmosphere was also really nice. She brought our table some salsa, salsa verde (I think...), and queso. The chips were super fresh and hot. All three dips were fantastic. My parents each ordered a margarita and I got a iced tea. Our server later added their fresh lemonade which was AMAZING! Seriously, order it when you go there. I had a sip (or a few, tbh) of the margarita which tasted delicious. My dad and I ordered chili relleno, since that is what Irma made for Guy Fieri. My mom went for the chicken enchiladas.
Before our food came, our server brought us each a small bowl of bean soup. Again, I'm not really sure what it was because we didn't order it. But it was super good. The broth was delicious and warm and and had the perfect hint of spice. As soon as we finished the beans, our food came out. Like I'm talking less than 10 minutes after we ordered. And it was HOT! If you like your food steaming and fresh, you'll like this place.
Now the food, oh my god. SO FREAKING AMAZING! We're from Florida and we have some nice authentic Mexican places. But Irma's makes them taste like Taco Bell. The rice was fresh and had such a great flavor. The chili relleno came with lots of cheese and beef. The sauce was perfect and the pepper itself was fantastic. I took a bite of my mom's chicken enchiladas and they were also amazing. Super cheesy and had a great chicken flavor. Our server brought my dad and I fresh corn tortillas right of the grill. Screw the store bought ones. These were so damn fresh.
My only complaint I have is the price. All together it was a little over $100. We found this just a bit steep for what we ordered, but the quality and just the experience of going to a restaurant we've always wanted to go was sort of worth it. Of course, there are no menus so you can't see what the price is for what you order. So just be aware of that.
So if you've made it to through my extensive review, I hope I convinced you to give this place a try, even just once. We made the trip from Florida just to come here and I would say it was worth it. Are there other places that might be almost as good for less money? Probably. But you really can't beat the atmosphere of Irma's.
I just want to say thank you to the amazing staff for hosting us in your amazing restaurant. We were so excited to visit and y'all did not disappoint. Truly, it...
Read moreFirst off, the worst experience my spouse and I experienced: I’m not sure if she was the owner or the owner's relative. A total violation of Equal Opportunity and we experience some discrimination in this restaurant. One I’m not sure who the lady was a little heavier, worked in the back side of the restaurant. We first off walked in the gentlemen at the bar took us to the back side to sit. me and my spouse are bilingual and we hear that lady shout in the kitchen “ why are you bringing them back hear” we already had Un easy feeling about the restaurant. We sat down and our server a really nice lady was getting our order and drinks and me and my spouse asked for a menu. The lady told us in Spanish she will get the lady. 15 mins passed and we asked the lady again we never were able to order. So she apologized and said if we could give her a min to grab the lady from the register to help. Moments later the lady walks up we asked for a menu she said there is not one. Her tone was very rude and said this is what we have said it fast and didn’t give us a choice and then sighed super loud like we were bothering her. Yelled at us across the table. Then left. Minutes later she was yelling in Spanish to the ladies to come clean the floor it’s disgusting to wash the tables the way she was talking to them we knew right away there was a negative undertone of maltreated for the employees that we were able to catch because we understand Spanish. Several minutes after that we noticed her going around the dinning area and very friendly towards the people in the other tables that were white. She skipped our table and the other Mexicans in the dining area. Me and my wife were excited to eat at this restaurant due to its rich history. If she’s the owner I feel sorry for the establishment of she’s an employee I recommend consideration of who they bring on the team. At the end we had enough we just went to the register to pay and the lady looked around and then charged us 77$ me and my spouse were stunned we only had a water, a beer and 1 plate and chips and queso. We just payed and left. We asked for a receipt it didn’t have anything itemized just the total amount.
I ask everyone to beware of this place, it’s sad but discrimination still is among us and unfortunately at Irma’s...
Read moreHouston Astros were playing against the San Diego Padres. My family needed a parking space near the Minute Maid stadium. We found this nice restaurant that was offering its parking lot to people attending the baseball event. My family got down and went inside seeing the restaurant it was lovely. They directed us to the next room through the hall at the end of the room. This room was so confined and cramped with only just the tables and chairs. The decor was confusing and stressful to say the least such as Christmas tree with leprechauns on it and having a old juke box next to my table thats next to me while I'm afraid to back up my seat in fear that I might break the glass or knock over any of the antique items surrounding me. All of what I've just described to you were not even the tip of the iceberg, I would say this is just warning forecast. I reassured myself and thought "These are just minor inconveniences, I bet the food and service will be exquisite." Never have I been more wrong in my entire life. The server we had was a elderly short woman who appeared to be in her late 50s or 60s. We asked for a menu but she said the menu was "Verbal". She was really inpatient and spoke in a low and demanding manner. At that point we knew something was up We ordered our drinks and chips with guacamole and salsa. We ordered mole plates. Eating the mole plates with rice I can say It was pretty good and alright. She gave us the bill, we paused to look closer and study it. There was no notes of what we ordered the only thing we saw was the price $156.98. It wasn't even really a bill it was more like a ransom note. Ordering us to pay or else there will be consequences. She saw us and knew we were going to say something about the bill. I would've love to say something about her service but we needed that parking space space for the game. I paid for the bill and tipped. When leaving she smugly exclaimed "You have a nice day". That's when I knew shes a veteran at this, sticking people with a big bill and making them pay while not even having a single ounce of remorse or shame at what she does to her customers.
Please If you're ever visiting Houston, Texas next to minute maid stadium. Heed my warning people, stay away from...
