I was able to stop by for Kona Cafe's soft opening! My coworkers and I have been waiting for this, so we were so excited, especially since I haven't had the chance to try the Katy location.
We all ordered the Kona Ocean, which is a specialty latte. Not too sweet and still pretty strong! Definitely would order this again. They offered cups of their house blend for the soft opening, and as someone who doesn't drink black coffee, it tasted so good. I didn't feel the need to add sugar or creamer because of the flavor profile.
They offer a few options for breakfast (muffins, croissants, avocado toast) and even some things for lunch (bulgogi bowls, spam musubi). The blueberry muffin I got was good, but a bit sweeter than I prefer. There was some kind of icing or filling inside. I'd still get it again, but coffee helps.
Definitely stop by if you're near the tunnels! The drinks are pricey, but it's a nice, locally owned shop with sweet owners. They forgot to make one of my coworker's drinks and gave her a free treat.
Update: My coworkers and I came back to try their food options for lunch! We tried the beef bulgogi and spicy pork options as well as some spam musubi. The spam musubi is great, can't go wrong there. For $11-$12, it's a great deal in the tunnels! Each box came with the respective meat option, rice, cabbage salad, and japchae, which is Korean glass noodles. We really enjoyed the lunch, and it was so much food for the price. A solid, authentic Korean option for lunch. I also got to try their biscotti and I love it! Will be back for more to pair with my...
Read moreI went in today for their soft opening. I got the cold brew, apple muffin, and avocado boiled egg croissant sandwich.
The cold brew is good, and I'm looking forward to trying some of their other coffee options.
The apple muffin is also good. It's very much like a coffee cake in muffin form. I almost took a cranberry scone instead but I'll save that for next time.
The avocado boiled egg croissant sandwich was the more exciting purchase. In addition to the avocado and egg, the sandwich has balsamic drizzled over the ingredients. I wouldn't have thought to ever combine balsamic with the egg and avocado but I have to say, it is quite good and I'm glad I tried it. The sandwiches have the option to be served on a croissant or bagel.
Finally, the staff were all very friendly and seem like very kind folks. There was a line full of curious office workers forming when I arrived, but they still served everything promptly. I'm thrilled to see something new and fresh in the tunnels, especially right outside...
Read moreThis is a Hawaiian-themed cafe but the owners are Korean-American so most entrees on the menu are Korean. I usually get the Beef Bulgogi bibimbap bowl and it's consistently prepared well, every ingredient tastes fresh and balanced, not too heavy in sodium. The spam musubi are very decent as well but now that they have added additional snack items, I have been fond of the kimbap lately. The extra large oatmeal cookie is very worth trying for $2.99. The affogato iced latte is very good here but calorically dense. You are always greeted with...
