Los Tios was a beautiful restaurant with great servers who were very attentive. I must say that I was very disappointed in the food. I love Mexican food, so I was excited to try them. I started with the puff pastry covered in queso. It was exactly just that, dry flavorless fried pastry covered in nacho cheese. Very meh. The next were the chips and salsa. Again very dry, hard, flavorless chips served with COLD green and red sauces that were bland. I ordered the red fish Tacos. The rice and pinto charro beans were delicious. The tortillas on my fish Tacos were undercooked and tasted very bland. There was a hint of lime on the Tacos, but no other sauce. They were crammed with dry red cabbage. I used the liquid from my beans on my Tacos to add moisture and flavor. My Boyfriend had the enchiladas and didn't finish them. He is a big guy, so for him to pass on food, it's pretty bad.
I did not complain to management because I saw that they cater to a certain demographic group that has a milder and blander taste profile. This food could definitely be served in a convalescent home without adjusting for spice levels, BLAND. If you like the spice and depth of flavor in traditional or Tex-Mex Mexican food, then skip Los Tios. I did tip 30% for the great service. It is never the servers fault when food...
Read moreI was pretty much on the fence about this place as I know I am a picky person when it comes to Tex Mex Restaurants. Most Tex Mex places are a dollop of salt and weirdly blend spices with watered down Margaritas, whip doesn’t fit the bill…Los Tios was not.
The wait for this place is ridiculous at 5 pm on a Thursday. They were super busy and there were tons of customers waiting outside for over an hour. Use the Yelp waitlist people. Our wait time said 1 hr 32 minutes. We ended up getting seated in 46 as larger parties did not show up for their reservation.
The service here is on point. Mahdeya was our server. She was absolutely sweet and attentive. The staff continued to bus our plates off the table, drinks were consistently refilled and even the managers stopped by to check on us.
The meals were worth the wait though. I ordered one of the combinations with the crunchy beef taco, cheese enchiladas and be puffy queso. All were made fresh and the flavors were fantastic. The cheese enchilada had a good amount of filling, the rice was fluffy and seasoned well. The puffy queso had the right amount of queso and crunch.
I’d come back here in the future, but preferably during a not so busy time. I’m not sure how this place did it, but they managed to provide excellent service as crazy and...
Read moreUPDATE: Tonight revisited Los Tios solo after a few weeks away and once again, they exceeded all expectations. I started the evening with ice-cold Modelo Especials, which were the perfect lead-in to an amazing meal. I enjoyed the chips and salsa before the beef enchiladas, which were delicious and classic South Texas. The fajitas I ordered To Go were incredible when I enjoyed a late night snack at home followed by a perfect serving of tres leches. Happy times. My server, Alicia, provided impeccable service and made the entire experience truly memorable. Los Tios continues to set the bar high for outstanding food, atmosphere and hospitality!
PREVIOUS POST: Hands down the best and most authentic beef fajitas in Houston—perfectly cooked and beautifully presented with all the fixings you’d expect. The service is absolutely outstanding, we enjoyed everything from a cozy table for two in the bar with the absolute aura of a coastal Mexican villa. Fresh tortillas, crispy chips with flavorful salsa, and top-notch drinks made it an exceptional experience from start to finish. Thank you, Los Tios, for setting the bar high— the folks on Navigation, Westheimer, Washington and 610 South could learn a lot from your consistent commitment to incredible service and amazing food. Looking forward to...
