(Bare with me, I get a little detailed.) So the waitress approached my table. The look she gave me made me ask if she was ok. Fast forward I asked for some butter. She just looks at me and walks off. Did I get the butter. No. I didn't. She passed by my table a few times. I called her name as she passed right by me. But she would never respond. She just kept on walking. Now understand, I'm country. And my voice is deep and loud. In fact. I've been told. I should do radio. So I know she heard me. Even the person I was with called out to her. She just flat out ignored us. Needles to say, our drinks were never refilled. I had to get my own togo containers, and she never checked on us not 1 time. My friend didn't like the cabbage, so she wanted to get it taken off the check. Which they did. But we had to walk over to the register ourselves to get it done. I've eaten at Luby's hundreds of times. And the waitress would do that for me. But as you can tell. Although I had a waitress, I didn't have a waitress . The restroom was clean. The restaurant, in a whole, is a little dated. But the place has been hear for a while. I know because I've been going there since I was in high school. And I'm 54 now, lol. The rest of the staff were nice. The manager heard my concerns and said he would speak to her about her customer service. I think she should get a note to file. Me and my friend felt very disrespected and embarrassed. Especially considering other customers observed what was going on and committed. One customer said, "she might have a hearing problem." I said, "That might be so, but you can hear me almost yelling, with her passing right by my table." I'm going to continue to go there. Because that's the first time that has happened there. The place is ok. They wouldn't have existed there, as long as they have, if they were not good. I raited the atmosphere 1 star because I felt uncomfortable. I had just left from burying my father. I chose Luby's because I was looking for comfort food, in a comfortable atmosphere. I got the opposite. You talk about disappointment. She made an already bad day, even worse. I was waiter before. I felt like I was supposed to make the costumers feel like my restaurant was a safe haven, a place to kick back and relax from their busy day and enjoy a meal. I'm...
Read moreJust picked up food. When we got home I had to throw it out. I have NEVER had such inedible food. I mean, I will eat almost anything. We were starving. How is the bacon cheese steak dry? WTH??? I normally is a bit greasy with lots of bacon flavor. It was a dry meat patty with dried up cheese and zero flavor. Okay...cabbage. How can you mess that up? It was mushy and had this putrid flavor...can't put my finger on it. Husband tried it, and spit it out too. He agreed something was wrong. Mac and cheese CERTAINLY that was good? Right? Nope a mushy, flavorless, no cheese taste white-ish paste. Disgusting! Okay...so yams? How can you mess up candied yams? They were hard--completely undercooked. It was as if they ran out and tried to chop up some raw yam and miss it with some left over potato---BONE dry, too! No brown sugar or butter...marshmellow...nothing. Just smashed yams sprinkled with some cinnamon (barely)...again inedible. What was left...the bread. Well, it was BURNT! HOw are rolls burned? It was rock hard with super dark edges. Just shameful. We might use them as a hockey puck later. My husband's was slightly better but his chopped steak didn't even have gravy on it---huh? $50.00????? Are you kidding me? My husband poked at his food. I through out all of mine. He ended up going to Logan's and getting me some food there. Luby's you should be ashamed of yourself serving this kind of poor quality. I wish I could get my money back. Luby's down there on 34th used to be delicious! It has truly gone down hill. The only saving grace was the man who helped my husband at pick up. I ordered the oxtails online and when we got there he informed us that they didn't have it. He stated it should have been removed from online ordering. That already was a double whammy. Didn't get what I ordered and when I go a substitute, it had be thrown away. Only thing that is good, was the carrot cake--just took a bite to see how terrible that was going to be. It was actually tasty. Will eat later. I will not EVER go back to Luby's. Waste of time...
Read moreThe waitstaff is loud, uncouth, and unprofessional. They hang around the tables way too much, yet you can’t find them when it’s time for a drink refill. An initial warm greeting and small talk are great, but I'm not there for them to vent to. I dine in to enjoy a meal, not to be informed of workplace gossip or sit and listen to their personal problems.
If you know how Luby’s is set up, you know that you can get cash off your transaction at the register ahead of time to tip your server. I always adjust the tip according to the level of service. If it’s good, I leave more, bad or non-existent, I leave less or none. I don’t believe in leaving tips to supplement incomes. It’s 𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒆𝒅, not given.
During my last visit, I got cash as usual, with the expectation of receiving good service. Our waitress boldly complained to another about the amount of money she saw on the table…right in front of us. Then proceeded to do absolutely NOTHING to earn the tip.🙃She never approached our table that day.
Instead, she stood around laughing loudly, shouting across the dining room, and joking with the other waitstaff. She clowned herself right out of a tip that day.🤡 I collected my money off the table and informed the management of the foolishness. After many years of dining at that location, I decided not to visit again.
I travel further out to other Luby's locations, but it's worth it. The selections are better, the restaurants are nicer, and the staff is professional. The servers don’t have a problem doing their jobs, and I have no problem tipping generously. If the environment matters to you as much as the food,...
