25 minutes for 2 empanadas
I came in hungry. I ordered 2 empanadas: chicken and mole, and asparagus and cheese. The server told me it would take 10 minutes. The servers were smiling and they seemed hospitable.
After 25 minutes, I came up to the counter asking about my food and finally the cashier packed the empanadas for me.
The cashier used the excuse that they had a huge order before me. This was on a slow Sunday afternoon. The place was empty.
The empanadas themselves were not well made. The shell was too hard. It was over-fried. For a place that looks like a bakery, they tasted as if they were not fresh made. The filling, though piping hot, was well below average in quality. The asparagus was overcooked and chewy. The chicken was too soft and the mole had too much cinnamon and no other real flavors. It was oily and greasy.
The salsa was bad. Not just that it wasn’t tasty. But worse, it had been spoiled.
I prefer Taco Bell Chalupas to the empanadas I tried here. They taste more fresh and are made with better quality ingredients. Honestly, every place I have tried empanadas, they’ve been better.
Mexican, Salvadoran, Venezuelan, Honduran, and Dominican were all better. Not sure if it’s just this place, or if Colombian empanadas are just not worth it.
They were definitely not worth the wait.
I’m surprised that this place has over four stars on Google.
Houston is known for our diverse and exceptional food.
This place was not worth trying.
If you have a suggestion of better quality Colombian food, let a...
Read moreFirst and foremost as a business owner myself it's hard to review another business. However, I've been coming to this place for over a decade not sure why I continue to return because every time I come eat it's a problem whether is the food being frozen inside (arroz con pollo) or the horrible attitude of the "manager" and waitresses. Today for example I came by to get a malt drink and a cheese puff they were out according to what the lazy waitress said, she then went to the back to ask took forever to return but I hear the cool the manager dividing what I wanted to eat and all eyes were on me. So I went on to ask what was the problem? In no way shape or form did I ask for anything to made if they were already sold out. The so called new manager (the one prior to get was 10 times horrible) pretty much told me to mind my business. Very disappointed as a fellow Colombian myself to experience such treatment. Oh by the way I never got my drink as I was getting up the waitresses was barely looking for straw after 15 minutes that had passed. Will not...
Read moreI came here on Friday after eatin a few blocks away. My family likes pan de Bono even though this place let's us down sometimes because the bread stinks and we don't realize until we get home and are ready to eat. We have brought it back to them once or twice I believe after the first incident. The smell is quite similar to rotten eggs. Anyways back to my most recent incident. I arrived at 8:40 PM the door was closed and the employee's ignored me completely as I tried to pull the door open. The imprint on the glass window states that Fridays are open from 8am-9pm. There was still 20 min left until 9 o'clock. I stayed in the car right in front of the door for 5 min waiting to see if any of the employees would wave at us or come outside, but none of them did and they kept ignoring us and chatting with each other. Don't come here if you want Colombian bread there is a place down the street that has better tasting bread and doesn't stink like...
