Read moreThis place looks pretty good, and my overall opinion of the place is good. I pick this brand any time I can because one doesn't have to watch their loyalty points if they go dormant for 1 year. They are yours forever as a gift should be. However, there is room for improvement that needs to be addressed. I realize this brand is 100% privately owned, and it’s not really a chain. These operators much watch cost to survive, but plenty of them get too stingy, and the guest experience suffers.||Innkeepers should NEVER deploy acrylic bath enclosures. In fact, they should be remove from the market for all people. Their slick surface wears away at warp speed, and they begin to get grubby. One can bleach the socks off of them, and get them back to clean, but it’s a never-ending effort. The bottom line is they can’t be kept clean, and the shower floor in this room looks bad, and that's not housekeeping's fault. It’s also cracked due to inadequate support from below, and they have tried to fix that with RTV silicon rubber, which is inadequate. This whole shower needed to be ripped up, thrown away and put something new in it's place.||When I check into a property, and they have put up a sign on the front desk that there’s a towel shortage, it sets a wrong tone for the stay. There’s no towel shortage, but rather they don’t want to spend and want the guest to accept that lie and be content. This room had barely enough towels, and they were thin, but an adequate amount for a king room. They would be better off to take that sign down and don't say anything. ||The rest of the common areas, and sleeping quarters were adequate. The bed covers were cheap and thin, and the pillows about the size of Chiclets™ gum. There were barely enough, but nothing I complained about. There should be more, or be a little more generous on the size and grade they are buying.||The lady on the front desk was very professional, accommodating, and courteous, and she spoke English and could be understood. The man who relieved her on the next shift equally satisfying. They don’t have an ice machine, which is another negative component. They will give you a tiny little bag of ice, which isn’t enough to meet the need. It’s better than some extended stay brands that give the guest an ice tray and a freezer.||The bathroom was in good condition except for that dirty shower floor. Housekeeping has been doing a good job with what they have to work with. The vanity, lavatory, fixtures, valves and stool were in good operating condition, and clean. The guest gets a very small microwave oven, and one-half of a refrigerator, and both were very clean. The furniture in the room showed no signs of wear.||Someone labeled this a Galleria hotel, which makes me laugh. It's 2.2 miles to the Galleria, and not likely one would walk it. If you want to drive to the Galleria brace yourself for extreme congestion. This really isn't related to the Galleria at all, and that's a good thing.||This place is off a main artery, and the neighborhood seems to be on a come back from much worse. I didn’t feel my safety was at risk, but some of the characters in this area looked like they didn’t have enough to do. There seemed to be plenty seedy little shops all over the place selling everything. Houston neighborhoods are an eclectic mixture from great to seedy. This isn’t far from one of Houston’s most notorious; Sharpstown.||There’s a lot of food and services in this area. One can find much of anything they want around here. Access to this property is pretty easy. They have done a good job of keeping the grounds in good condition.||ALL of the door locks work properly, which is a true accomplishment. Some of these door lock systems are very frustrating, but I didn't have any problem here. They have plenty parking in the rear, and a few spaces in the front. I wouldn't show up there with a big trailer, or anything that's hard to turn around.||I was pleased with the value I got, and were I to need something in this area I...
One night in room 317, it was one of the Jacuzzi tub rooms, and I got mostly what I was expecting for the price point. A basic 3ish-star hotel room, with the wear and tear I would expect for a property of this age and class. This property was built around the year 2000, with a refresh in 2015.
The lady at check in was exceptionally polite, thanked me for being a Diamond Select member, and I received my welcome amenity.
The hallway on the 3rd floor was exceptionally hot and muggy, and the ice machine was out of order.
There is no sundry shop onsite, however, they stated there was a vending machine with snacks on the second floor. And so there was – it had Doritos and gum in it. There are soda machines on the 1st and 3rd floors. There is a Chevron station right next door with just about anything you could need.
The fitness center did not have any drinking water, hand sanitizer, or towels.
The guest laundry was out of service.
Breakfast was a disappointment. Coffee was okay, reconstituted powdered eggs were soupy and got cold really fast, sausage was sitting in a pan of grease and water. There was a selection of cereals, waffles, breads, bagels, and muffins. Biscuits were okay. Gravy for the biscuits was too thick, like it had been sitting out too long.
Upon entering the room there was a peculiar odor, and I knew immediately what it was. They are flooding the room with ozone in an attempt to deodorize it. This is incredibly unsafe as ozone should only be used in unoccupied areas. There is a Newaire ozone generator plugged in, which I turned off immediately because ozone is a danger to humans in high amounts.
The Wi-Fi in my room only worked if you were by the entry door. There was no signal at the desk or bed at all. I went to see if I could find the cause, and I found the APs were shoved in the drywall ceiling with a hole drilled in the drywall with their antennas barely sticking out. There was also no AP anywhere close to my corner room. The wireless AP radio deployment is poor. Hotel claims to have hardwire drops in the rooms, and it did at the desk, but when I tried it, it did not work. Since I'm in telecom I travel with a signal repeater, so I got WiFi to work, but your regular traveler would be out of luck.
There are power outlets and USB Type-A outlets by the bed, and the furniture, while dated, looked to have the wear on it that I would expect for its age. The fridge and microwave were clean – both worked. The TV by the bed worked fine.
The air conditioner was a newer PTAC unit, filters were clean, but it struggled to cool the room even on the high setting. It just does not circulate the air enough.
The humidity vent in the bathroom didn’t work, so I guess the fan on that system is long out of use. If they were to get that working again, it would go a long way into not only helping remove steam and humidity from the room (hence the need for the ozone generator) but also help aid in cooling the room.
The shower was clean except for the ceiling. It had some gunk on it. There were 3 average sized bath towels in the room. They seemed fine.
The bed and linens, while clean, are way past their usefulness date. The mattress is old and misshapen and needs to be replaced. The linens are past their useful life and are old and scratchy, even for an economy brand like Best Western. There was a mattress protector on the bed. No signs of bugs or insects.
The whirlpool tub was clean, no mold, and worked well. The room was pretty clean for the price point, except the sofa. It glowed like Chernobyl under a blacklight. Carpet could stand to be steam cleaned (sketchy looking stain).
Not too disappointed because the price point (except the internet issue), but I would probably consider paying extra and staying somewhere newer or more recently remodeled next time. They’re mostly keeping up with the hotel in terms of maintenance, but it’s clearly tired and there's noticeable cost cutting...
Read moreI will be posting videos and conversations to confirm my stay because at this point it seems these reviews are a front. Or Southern Hospitality is just to preserve its reputation. I never booked at a Best Western before it is my first. The room was filled with an odor of like water May had flood the room. Maybe hence why this room didn’t have no carpet. However because of our event of location I didn’t book another place. I didn’t complain. The second day walking in roaches in the hallway. The refrigerator had a leak and halfway cooled our food. I had to go to the front and let them be aware we had not received room service at all not even as we left out. I was told we was put on the list. Had to ask for towels and wash clothes. When we asked for ice I was told that it was none and sorry someone has to go out and buy a bag of ice. Experiencing the storm in this place was very very traumatizing. One, they had no generator. Per a staff member that came for a moment. Our room was completely out of power for the last 2 nights we was stuck there. To only be informed by residences who stayed their in the months of April past this happen and hotel personnel knew it was no generator then and company did not place one there. Confirmed by 3 people plus the worker. Fire alarm going off no knowing where the smoke smell was coming from that was so strong. They wanted to believe it was out doors but no it wasn’t. We had to keep calling 911 because a woman was stuck on the elevator. They left a non English speaking worker to cover the front desk. So when we were trying to ask for direction or anything all she could say was, “No, sorry” “can I help you? No call number” and when I asked for compensation, of no air quality, no power, in hopes to use the vehicle for a charge our come to front where one outlet on the other side of building to get some type of charge. To be told our state don’t require hotels to have generators so we don’t have one and to know that this same hotel has experience storm power outage and not have a plan nor fire plan for the safety of their residence. The most unsafe and dangerous place to be was here inside this building. We ended up leaving to go freeze on the airport. Ofcourse our flights was delayed but never again. No one has reached out but took their funds and said no compensation. And don’t give me a credit because your place is unsafe, anyone with asthma, oxygen breathing machines or anything, don’t stay here. Phobias of darkness or can’t use stairs. Don’t. It took a while of course for fire department to come because the emergencies all was having. So things up to the storm was already issues and then for me to have to pay for a quality stay that I couldn’t get quality stay and put us in a traumatic experience because the place was ill equipped on purpose. Can’t get me to come back. I hope someone for corporate really take notice because poor air of quality because no air in rooms and how hot it was and their was babies. Man no way. I’m going to post of this on social media because never had I experience this and I’ve been in plenty of storms which is a natural disaster but for you all to know that it happens and had happen in April of this past year and still not prepare not only the people that live and book but your personal that does this for a living. No way. I had to put a star just so my...
