Great Variety, customer service is good, food looks fresh but it has always been a hit n miss kind of experience for me. Generally their Nehari and Haleem taste good but my last too visits have made me question the quality of the food.
I understand to get the frozen Nehari out and warm to serve requires adding some Water some oil to it but adding water means u will have to cook a lil longer and not just warm it. Nehari had a strong after taste and it took me time to figure out what that taste was but I did and heating up Nehari after adding water it is not recommended to add green pepper and ginger to it. Cuz they will leave an odd flavor to it. To keep it tasting good it has to be heated in original form with slight water n oil to keep the gravy light. Haleem hmm don’t know what to say except when you have heated the haleem which has been on the buffet table for long hours it’s not recommended to store that haleem and try to serve the same haleem next day after re-heating it. You will always have it taste like Old daal with beef in it. The haleem was to old and that is what was wrong with it probably on It’s 3rd run and was saved for over 5 days in the fridge. Best starters in town, salad bar offers good variety with 2 different soups along with pakora , papad, Chana, variety of salad and couple of chutneys. It’s the starters that Makes me keep going back to mezban other wise lately the food quality has been on a decline. I hope they figure out how to keep serving the fresh food as old times otherwise it will become hard to keep the...
Read moreFood is almost always wonderful at Mezban. But the service I experienced today was shameful. Lady who covers checkout/cashier was really rude. I'd come with friends for lunch buffet. I asked for sweet lassi. She said mango lassi? I said No, regular sweet lassi in a glass. I'd almost finished with my food. Then she brings a lukewarm bottle over saying here's your lassi. No glass. Just handed me the bottle. Ok fine I was thirsty and wanted lassi so didn't say anything. Then tried opening bottle. Wouldn't budge. My friend tried. Wouldn't open either. I took the bottle and showed lady the bottle and asked would you please open this because I can't. She says "Go ahead you can open it." I said I can't it's not opening that's why I've asked you for help! Rude cashier lady tells waitress standing next to her to go open bottle for me. Rude cashier lady was not doing anything at that particular time. I handed the bottle back to the waitress when she came and told her loudly I do not want this any more. Keep in mind 2 things...1) it was not busy at all while we were there (around 2-3:15pm Monday) And 2) I have severe arthritis especially in both my hands. So when I ask for help to open a bottle it may be the most simple thing for many. But for me it's not. Because of her and her attitude I will not come to this place again which my family and many loved ones have been frequenting since it started. And I know the owners also. But this person's demeanor of arrogance and rudeness was incredibly offsetting. Sorry Mezban. Lost a regular...
Read moreOkay, let’s talk about my most favorite South Asian restaurant in Houston; no worries, it’s Mezban!!! Let me tell you why I love this place! Before going to the food menu, I would say the environment of the restaurant is just mind blowing. There is desi ambiance in the restaurant. The staffs there are very friendly and always there to help you, either for choosing which one to eat or just clean out the table during buffet. I used to work in a restaurant and I know how much the staffs’ smile matters to the customers! The staffs here are felt very jolly minded and I felt good being there!!!
Okay now the food! Their appetizer section is very rich! From salads to chaats and pani puri- everything tastes good. As I love spicy chutneys, they also have options for that! The kabobs, tandooris, haleem, nihari everything tastes so good and juicy!!! I loved the special goat pulao there and it’s just wow! Last but not the least, the desserts. After a long period of time, I felt like I am eating the kheer my mom used to make!!! Whenever I am feeling homesick I come here. They have the masala milk tea which is made just how I like.
Now the price! The price for weekend dinner is very expensive ($20/person). But the brunch and lunch time price is okay based on the prices of South Indian restaurants around ($15.99/ person on weekend brunch, lunch).
I highly recommend this restaurant! But go go there as early as possible!!! Lunch time is...
