Lunch at PrimoHoagies on Washington Avenue Wednesday at 11:30. Quite some time ago I asked for recommendations for good old style Italian subs with soft rolls. I do not like a hard crust on the bread. I got several good recommendations, and one was to try PrimoHoagies and ask for an unseeded roll. I went today and ordered the Old Italian with Dry cured Capicola, Prosciutto and sharp provolone. I had the small (6-inch sub), a bag of chips and a diet Pepsi bottle and the cost was $19.32 including a 20% tip. The unseeded bread was just what I like, soft and fresh without any crunch. The small was plenty for lunch and I think I have a healthy appetite. The next size up, the Primo (probably 9 inches, not positive) would have been more than I needed. The full size would probably be perfect if I wanted to bring half home. The ingredients were fresh and plentiful with plenty of meat and cheese. The picture is deceiving because I cropped it too close, it is good sized sub. There are plenty of toppings and dressings to choose from and it came out prepared exactly as I expected. This location is a sub/sandwich shop. You order and pay at the counter, and they bring your sub out to you. There were two customers ahead of me who were ordering just as I arrived, and it took just 5 minutes for my order to come out. The cashier was friendly and patient with my questions and indecisiveness! There are six two top tables. The TV was on a sports channel (not my thing), and I could have done without it, but was appropriate for the setting. The room is not as pleasant/fun as Cheba Hut which I enjoyed but is fine to “grab lunch.” I don’t go for a sub very often and when I do, I usually look for some version of an Italian, but they have lots of other choices on a varied menu. Thanks to whomever gave me the recommendation especially about ordering the unseeded roll. Very happy and will put it in my rotation for days I work remotely as it is just a few minutes from home in River Oaks.

Mixed experience. I had a Bada Bing Hoagie with Roasted Pork and Roasted Bell Pepper, on a seeded Hoagie roll. The Roasted Pork was absolutely dry. I slathered mayonnaise and oil and vinegar on it, and it was barely edible. Generally, I stick with sandwiches that have been warmed, and warmth would have helped. The waitress had asked what I wanted on my sandwich when I ordered, and I said I'd like it as it came. Should have added stuff to the sandwich to make it better. As a result, I did not eat all of my sandwich. My wife loved her Italian Hoagie. She was asked what she wanted on her sandwich, and she asked for extra tomatoes, and the sandwich came with more veggies on it, which undoubtably made it better. It was 75 degrees outside, but the place was freezing. Service was OK, but not inspired. 3 of the 6 tables had not been cleaned when we arrived, even though there were no others in the restaurant, and there were 3 people working the counter. Not a great first time / last time visit.

I learned about Primo from my clients up in Conroe, TX and it was AMAZING! It made me even happier to know that they had just opened up a location in the Washington-Heights area in Houston, Texas. So of course when I saw them across the street from my closing, I swung by and ordered the Turkey Breast & Cheese sub. The service was nice. I had some questions and the gentleman didn’t know the answer, but he very politely explained to me that he was new on the job. Even so, he recommended the Sharp Provolone cheese for my sub and Creamy Pickle Chips and BOTH did NOT disappoint! So applause to him & high five. While the hoagie was super good, I was a tiny disappointed in the bread. It wasn’t the same consistency of the one that I had in Conroe, which was crunchy, fluffy and light. This one had some fluff and some crunch, but the ends were a little drier than I would prefer. All said, I will definitely go back again! Looking forward to it!

The bread was not fresh. Seriously? Had to work hard to tear it. Not good. You gotta have fresh bread. There was barely any meat on the sandwich. This is an East Coast brand, and the sandwich they served me was not an East Coast sandwich. The pictures they show do not compare one bit to what I actually got. East Coast sandwiches are loaded with slices. I think there were two “thin” slices on this sandwich. Absolutely pathetic. Tasted good, but a pathetic sandwich. Paid $14 for a pathetic, small sandwich, and a bag of chips. At least I love the Herr’s chips. That was the only plus. Parking lot is tiny, barely any tables, and they’re next to a very popular chicken place right next door. If you are trying to go for a quick lunch, I don’t think that would be possible. I think these East Coast guys need to pack their stuff up and go back, or make a real, loaded, East Coast sandwich with FRESH bread. I also forgot to mention the dining area is tiny, and the guy in charge of cleaning was sweeping all around me while I was eating. They weren’t near closing. The manager should have told him to stop sweeping up dust while I was eating my sandwich. Gross yo. Everyone was nice, but that dude was just kind of clueless. I doubt I’ll be back. Even if I’m...

i first heard about this place on a local foodie podcast "what's eric eating?". decided to go check it out today during my lunch break.

ordered the food online (mobile) & that was a seemless, intuitive process after creating my account. picked up the food and the store itself was nice, clean, and had well-stocked shelves for chips and other items. they even sell some cured meats in a small fridge off to the side.

the sandwich I ordered was called "the american" and was the perfect size for lunch portion. i've been to many a sandwich shop & deli during my 32 years of life, so i feel as if i'm more knowledgeable than average on what makes a sandwich above the board.

the hoagie's bread was exceptional, with a nice crust and crumb to the innards. the ingredients within the sandwich were excellently slice, stacked, and packaged for my takeout. the provolone was especially flavorful and fresh, which is incredibly rare for most sandwich shops i've been to.

im giving them 5 stars because i honestly don't know what they could improve as a small sandwich shop. i will definitely return at...
