I've heard of Roegel's for years but have put off trying them because I had my favorite Q that I preferred. But after the last uneventful briskets at my favorite Q, I began to venture out. The staff was friendly and attentive. The pitmaster for the day was kind to talk to us about the cooking times and shop talk. (I love to smoke food...most people eat it. I smoke it) The atmosphere was perfect for a barbecue place. But let's face it...we're not here to talk about Da Food! Something about me. When it comes to barbecue, barbecue=brisket and brisket=barbecue. Ribs are okay. Chicken is meh. Turkey - a step up from chicken. BRISKET IS ART!! Roegel's brisket is my new favorite. Let me telleth thee why. Beautiful smoke ring, right amount of fat and the bark was perfect. Was it tender? I'm having a moment right now because I'm re-living the moment when I put that perfect bite into my mouth...and it just melted. The meat is perfectly tender. It's not pull apart; it held its shape after being sliced by the pitmaster. but when I went to tear it, pieced flaked. OMG it was soooo good! I need a cigarette! I also had the jalapeno cheese sausage which was very tasty. Great snap, moist and the cheese was still melty after 10 minutes. My daughter had the brisket and turkey. You know about the brisket. The turkey was moist. Unlike most smoked turkey breast that is a little dry or over smoked, this had a mild smoke and was surprisingly juicy. For sides, I opted for the obligatory cole slaw and pinto beans. Pinto beans were great. They weren't over seasoned or have a layer of fat sitting on top of them. The cole slaw was a little too sweet for me but still good. My daughter had the mac and cheese and I can't remember what because I was having my moment with my brisket. I give Roegel's a whopping 5 thumbs up! ...
Read morePretty bad first experience and the food was not worth it. Never going back.
Experience: At lunch time, I was in line about 45 mins. No biggie. Once I got to the guy at the register, he was rushing the heck out of me and kept looking back at the line. It was my first time so I didn't know how exactly to order what I wanted and he didn't seem to want to help. Telling me "can't do that" without giving options even when I asked questions he would just give a rushed answer and look back at the line again. I get there's a line, but I don't think it's right to just work to get rid of the line instead of actually helping the people in it. So I just got whatever he led me to get so I wouldn't keep taking up his time. Way less than what I wanted.
Food: I wanted to order a lot of brisket and some little caramelized bits of fatty meat I saw on a picture on Google. They don't sell those bits anymore and to order brisket I guess you can ONLY get a 1 meat plate of it or a pound. If there's another option, buddy at the register did not want to give it to me. The brisket slices were just ok. Just juicy enough to get away with not being dry. The slices were thinner than a starving model. The "creamy cole slaw" was comically not creamy. It was more like wet twigs and they had that kind of farty smell that you get sometimes when you cook meat. The potato salad was very potatoey. Tasted more like natural mashed potatoes. Just ok. Best part was the Bourbon Banana Pudding. That...
Read moreI want to be honest and respectful in my review. I probably won't go here again. I don't think the establishment is the worst place, but for the money I paid, I have enjoyed tastier brisket. I ordered the bricket plate. It was not dry at all. It was a little fatty, but not 50 percent fat. It had no flavor. I never understand why some places don't want to season the meat. I had to dress it down completely in barbeque sauce. It was only 3 slices of brisket. The mac n cheese was pretty cheesy. I'm good with that, but again it had no flavor. The potato salad (I won't comment on). My wife had the bake potato. The potato was a good size. And it had a good amount of meat in it. Just missing flavor. The peach cobbler was grainy. It taste like it was made with cornbread or corn mill mix. I did rate the service with 4 stars. The food was ready pretty quickly. I gave this place 3 stars because of my preference to have food with flavor. 60 dollars that included a 18 percent tip for 3 slices of brisket, loaded potato, 2 sides and a peach cobbler didn't seem worth it for me due to the lacking in the food department just didn't seem worth it. That is my thoughts, it may be worth it for you, especially if you don't really like food that is seasoned. Some people aren't in to spices or seasonings outside of...
