So far one of the BEST Italian restaurant in my book in greater Houston Area. It's a very boutique restaurant, and dishes are pretty good in their unique way.
Chef Arturo is super friendly and extremely attentive when he is not cooking. He will check on every single table and get their feedbacks, and he will tell you if you are eating his dishes wrong. LOL. He told me I should never use my knife to cut a pasta, so I asked how should I cut it then, he said you always use your fork and if you are in Italy you will get killed if you cut your pasta with your knife. He is a funny guy and I guess I learn something new every day.
I was there couple of times, they do have something special which is offer in different time. But they try their best to accommodate you, I really appreciate that kind of customer services.
Dishes which were impressive: 1. Veal Chop: Amazing! definitely number 1 in my book. I would eat it any time of the day. Marinated to its perfect flavor, meat was extremely tender, they recommended medium instead of medium rare, can't complain about it. 2. Mussel with wine sauce, very light, their toasty little bread which came with it was soooo good. It has enough sauce for you to soak in. Pretty large size dish. Mussel was very nicely cooked, super soft. Prosciutto Pizza: excellent! Thin crusted, prosciutto is dry- aged to its perfection. Very soft and tender. Not oily at all. Red Snapper: ingredient they used was super fresh, hence this dish was no doubt great. Sweet tiny tomato was awesome. 5. Desert: Apple Brutle was EXELLENT! OMG. I need to add a extra spoon of ice cream on it next time I'm there. We cleaned the whole plate.
Overall, it is really a great place for family, friends, food lovers. I am so glad I found this little heaven. Recommend to reserve a seat to be safe especially if you have a big party. No booster or high chair for...
Read moreWe really wanted to like this place. It had been on my list to visit, it’s a little ways away from our place so we finally made it out tonight on a Friday. The place is small and never got packed all the way. We started with the fish tacos and they were 5/5 but sadly it all went downhill from there. The papas bravas were terrible with no flavor (1/5), the prosciutto with melons was lacking (2/5), it’s not like it was aged or even 18 month prosciutto - probably lower than Walmart quality. Also melons didn’t go well at all. We got the tuna tartar and I would give negative stars for that if I could. It was only acid, acid and more acid. Limey with orange slices and cucumbers - made no sense. Then came the paella which was subpar (2/5) and then the creamy pasta where I subbed the shrimp for chicken and that was somewhat ok (3/5) Right before we got the mains we had asked 5 times for bread. There is no balance - we got a bottle if Chateau Neuf but the wine list was confused - just slapped together. I wasn’t expecting BCN or MAD but maybe an old school Costa Brava type vibe. Or even one of Arturo’s old places from 20 years ago. He came by the table twice and he was just drunk. He was trying to be sweet but he came across pretty obnoxious.
We over ordered so there might be something we would end up liking but even the crème brûlée on spoon was runny and not good.
Hope they can turn it around. Unless things change this was our first...
Read moreDear foodie readers, a new review, I have been a little off my game…a lot going on, but let’s get to why you are reading this…Arturo Boada…nestled on del monte street in in the briar grove area…unfortunately the facade doesn’t do it justice, but I felt it added to the charm of the whole experience…it’s a small space, I recommend reservations…we were welcomed by the super friendly staff…once we sat down, we took in the vibe…I loved that it was just a tad old school…nothing over the top…and honestly no need for fancy, because his food is fantastic. We started with delicious garlic bread, along with the sautéed calamari….yes you read that correctly…sautéed, and let me tell you, wayyyy better than fried….the garlic and oil sauce was beyond amazing, we wanted to dab anything we could in it, it was that good. We also had the ceviche, was excellent as well. Our entrees next, I had one of specials, it was branzino with crab on top, sheer perfection. Simple no frills, and paired with some veggies…my husband got the tuna, and enjoyed it as well. My kids loved their steak and pasta. We then ordered dessert, 3 of them, we couldn’t resist, I was celebrating my anniversary so why not. In house pistachio gelato, apple tart, and flourless chocolate cake…can’t say which was my favorite, they were all wonderful. The best part is Arturo comes and visits his guests, very hospitable man. Thank you for a...
