Not exaggerating when I say Roots wine bar is my new favorite restaurant. The experience and atmosphere is perfect for really any occasion, professional but so chill. Staff is not pushy yet always really helpful when you need it. The wine selection system works out great for someone like me who loves to sample everything (it's an automated system that lets you choose 1oz, 3oz, or 5oz pours).
In all honesty tho I didn't go there for the wine (since I'm not a big wine drinker) but the selection they had really made me feel like a kid in a candy store. It was probably the most wine I've had since the pandemic. What really caught my eye was the food menu. It's a seasonal menu so when I randomly looked up what they had I was really surprised at their offerings. Let me put it this way, a chef of this caliber isn't the type who has spent his career bragging about where he's worked or who he's cooked for, he's the type of chef who has paid attention to every criticism and every technique and when asked to make something good he quietly puts a dish in front of you that modestly yet boldly states "yeah, I'm the chingon"(pardon my Spanish).
The crab with Carolina gold rice, amazing... plain and simple. Wagyu tartare with bread so perfectly toasted you'd think they had a cook specifically focused on the bread alone. Kaarage quail that paired so harmoniously with sweet potato dip you end up kicking yourself for wishing you came up with it yourself. The Duck confit which looks like it's gonna blast you in overpowering flavor but then surprises you with such balance your mouth and brain take a second to realize the Zen happening between them. My only regret with the food was not ordering the entire menu. Every dish is so balanced in flavor and texture it makes me look back at my restaurant career and wish I had this level of attention in the kitchen. Seriously tho, it's not just the amazing wine, not just the perfectly cooked food, but the staff also just makes you feel like you're hanging out in someone's backyard...someone who happens to have the best wine and food and chillest friends around.
Have a date, bring your friends, got someone from out of town visiting... Take...
Read moreThis correspondence serves as a formal declaration that I will not be patronizing your establishment ever again. My decision is final and based on the profoundly unacceptable managerial conduct and customer service experienced during my most recent event. I am a well-known figure on social media platforms as @chefdeliceous, and I have a significant history with your venue, having successfully hosted two previous large-scale events here. Furthermore, I have dedicated time and promotional efforts, including numerous social media endorsements and videos, to drive external traffic directly to your establishment. The events of November 5 were egregious. After successfully booking an event for 55 invited guests, effectively delivering significant and immediate revenue during a period of otherwise low traffic for your business, my party and I were subjected to unwarranted disrespect. Specifically, my team and I were aggressively targeted and confronted, culminating in an unfounded demand to pay an additional $750.00. This incident, especially after pre-paying for services and tipping employees, demonstrates a complete failure in professional decorum and management oversight. While my event provided a clear profit within the two hours of the reservation, the management's response showcased a critical deficiency in business judgment, prioritizing short-term gain through conflict over the long-term value of a repeat client and influential promoter. As a business owner, scholar, and successful professional, I value mutual respect and clear transactional integrity. I must therefore formally state: I will immediately cease all personal patronage and all social media endorsements of your winery. No future bookings or referrals will ever be directed from the Chef Deliceous platform. I wish you the best in your future endeavors, but I will ensure my network is fully aware of the...
Read moreI’ve taken a liking to wine bars as of late, and I am starting to explore the greater Houston area in search of places to sit back and enjoy a good glass of domestic or international wine. I heard that there was a wine bar in the area that offered a unique concept: Self- service. I looked it up and quickly paid a visit to Roots Wine Bar.
Roots is quite different from other wine bars I have visited thus far. The self- serve wine is the standout quality and this, alone, make it worth a visit. You pay at the front and are given a card which you then use to sample the wine of your choosing. You can select the serving size, too, with 1 oz, 3 oz, and 8 oz options. This is great for those who want to try several different wines before committing themselves to a large glassful. You find the wine you like, insert your card, place your glass underneath the spout, select your serving size, and pour.
With the wines, most of the options include information on each, so that you know what you are about to drink. Facts like the place of origin, style, alcoholic strength, etc are spelled out to you. I noticed that some of the wines were missing this information, but most do have it. And the selection of self- serve wines includes about 50 choices, with options from around the world.
Food at Roots Wine Bar is casual and includes cheese, pizzas, etc. It’s not fancy, and neither is the atmosphere. But these qualities are part of the fun! Roots isn’t a stuffy, pretentious place to sample wine. It’s a casual, informal, laid-back venue to sample wines and enjoy conversation.
Whether you’re a seasoned connoisseur of wine or a casual imbiber, you will like Roots Wine Bar! Parking can be a challenge, and you may end up having to park your car in the surrounding neighborhood and walk over. But it’s a small sacrifice to pay when you visit Roots Wine Bar, a fun place that lets you...
