I do think this place is as objectively great as you can make it, but I have two caviats that, despite my criticism, don't bring down the score.
Let's start with the appetizers and soups. The miso soup is very good. Burst of flavor and still a good balance of salty and sour. The Takoyaki was very doughy, but had some satisfying chunks of octopus to eat. And the crab rangoon was smaller than expected, but you get a decent amount of pieces, so that was fine, but it was very creamy with pretty average flavor, even with the sauce.
The Yakitori/Yakiniku were the best parts next to the sushi. I had the beef and chicken and they were grilled very nicely. Plump pieces of meat skewered and sauce that complimented them. Do yourself a favor and order these if the other appetizers for some reason don't satisfy.
The main event was sushi, which I have to say it is probably the best sushi in the Willowbrook area and maybe by extension Cypress. Even though I'm writing this within the first month of the restaurant opening, the sushi was not only very fresh, but the amount of fish per piece to eat was more than what you get at some restaurants. While that could change over time, the sushi quality is fantastic for those that would like to take advantage of the "all you can eat" style ticket.
Now I'll go over the caviats. The first one is the Basil Chicken Nuggets are not good because of the lack of flavor and the texture could be better. Despite the good garnish of Basil with Chicken, which is common when you go to boba tea shops in their snack sections, this chicken has no flavor, ironically also not included with any sauce, the breading seems a bit doughy, despite it being fried chicken. The second caviat are the stir-fried noodles, which is their hibachi. Perhaps I've felt that over time, the stir-fried style of food hasn't gotten better, but over here it was pretty oily and lacking flavor too. There was a rule I read where you were encouraged to finish your plate if you wanted to continue the "all you can eat" ticket. Even though I didn't like the stir-fried dish, I finished it out of principle.
Despite the caviats, I believe the positives I listed outweigh the cons. The staff was very nice, the servers tended to my every request, and any questions I had were answered in a timely manner. I would recommend coming here, especially if you're looking for a great place to eat "all you can eat" sushi, and perhaps...
Read moreI noticed Sake Bon had opened recently and decided to give it a try. After three visits twice for lunch and once for dinner, I feel confident saying it's a solid spot for all-you-can-eat Japanese cuisine.
Lunch (11am-3pm, $20) is a great value, while dinner (after 3pm, $32) offers a wider selection of appetizers, rolls, and sushi options. The food is fresh and comes out quickly, and the staff is consistently friendly and eager to make sure you have a great experience.
I've sampled a good variety from both menus. Some standouts: the wasabi crackers and basil chicken nuggets are my must haves. The golden rice is good, though not quite as flavorful as the version at Gyu-Kaku. From the dinner menu, I really enjoyed the Black Thunder Roll, White Tuna Truffle, Garlic Chili Yellowtail, and Seared Pepper Tuna all fresh and flavorful.
There were a few misses: the Sexy Jalapeño (fried Jalapeño with cream cheese and tuna) wasn't for me, though it was well prepared. The purple potato fries were just okay, the beef yakitori was average, and the chicken yakitori was unfortunately dry.
That said, the overall experience was positive, and the pricing is fair for the quality and variety offered. If you're looking for a casual sushi spot with tons of options. I'd especially recommend trying the...
Read moreWe have been watching the opening of this place and finally had a chance to come by.
It's similar layout to past restaurants in this space except for when you get tot the main dining area. They have many more tables and booths and make it a little more private, which we liked.
Everyone was very kind and friendly upon entering but our waiter was nothing short of AMAZING! Quang asked if it was our first visit and we said yes so he took time to go over everything with us in detail.
He was really over the top friendly, funny, entertaining and you can honestly tell he is just a genuinely kind person. He was pretty busy because the restaurant was pretty full but he came by often with smiles and offerings to get us anything else.
I liked that they had a ton of different foods to choose from and at the same stuff like everybody else has. Many of the sushi all you can eat places are just a carbon copy and don't try to differentiate themselves. Boring. I am not a vegetarian, but I do like my veggie options and they have a lot to choose from as well. They also have some different options For sashimi and nigiri. The quality is ok... definitely could be better but it was a great price for all the options and we definitely will be back and requested Quang. He made the experience a...
