Can't go wrong if you time it right. Hot donuts the best in Houston run don't walk or you will miss them. THE 5 STAR RATING WAS before yesterday when I purchased a chocolate creme filled donut the creme has always been white and not greasy yesterday it was almost grey like or very off white, the creme was awful very very greasy I had a very hard time getting the grease off my fingers from trying to take it out of donut and the greasy film from the bite out of the donut was very hard to get off my lips. The recipe must of changed or they filled the chocolate donut with just grease or at least it looked like nothing but grease. I would like everyone to know I travel some 25 miles there and 25 miles back to get a donut from the Shipley on N. Main I will not eat a donut from any other I feel the recipes are not exactly a like. Also that I have been eating donuts from this Shipley for over 54yrs I'm in my 60's now I would say it's been more then 54 yrs but not sure how small I was when my father would bring us hot donuts on Friday nights. Like I said before if the recipe has changed, change it back don't skimp on ingredients I mean the prices have gone up so why skimp so I expect quality like before or if it was human error and they put nothing but grease/ shortening in the donuts creme I might understand. Anyone I have told to go to this particular Shipleys have all stated oh man they are the best not dry and flat, but very fluffy they also would TRAVELED a long distance to get them from the N. MAIN LOCATION, FIX THE...
Read moreShipley Donuts SUCK! The people that run & make the donuts don't know how to make a delicious donut let alone cake donuts. Most of the donuts they know how to make (90%) are raised SMALL DONUTS. Do they make Cake Donuts, chocolate, maple, orange, and many other iced toppings and with sprinkles? Hell No! Do they know how to make Custard filled Donuts like Jelly donuts? With glazed or powered sugar on top? Do they know how to make Bars or Long Johns, filled with Chocolate or Maple glaze, and some also filled ? Do they know how to make Cinnamon Rolls, or Apple Fritters, about 4 1/2 to 5 inches in diameter? Do they make or even know how to make Bear Claws filled with apple? Do they know how to make Buttermilk Bars? About 3 1/2 inches long and 2" high? I don't think Shipley or the Owners of these shops know how to make but one donut & that's a RAISED GLAZED DONUT & a SMALL ONE AT THAT.. Do they make APPLE FRITTERS? Or do they know what it is? Plus they have the nerve to ask $0.79 cents for a baby donut plus tax.. My Review is just not for this Donut Shop with the Shipley Name but ALL OF THEM. If I were born & raised in Texas I would be ashamed to tell people t6hat Shipley's is Texas's Favorite & Best Donut Shop in the whole state. It's NOT, It is a disgrace. So Texans keep buying & sucking up those Shipley's Baby Donuts like Dolly Madison sells at Walmart. I...
Read moreKrispy Kreme rules in the East Coast in terms of fast food/donut chains (DD gets no love from me—they’ve gone the route of Baskin Robbins as far as I’m concerned), but in HOU it’s Shipley’s Do-Nuts. With airy innards ensconced in a crispy, deep fried donut, Shipley’s manages to infuse sufficient chewiness in their donuts, adding just enough heft and texture to give it that homemade goodness feel (compared to the somewhat chemical fluffiness in Krispy Kreme donuts). Alas, the trick is to find a Shipley’s at night that’s churning out fresh, plump, glazed donuts—and this location is it. Nightly at 10pm, day in and day out, for those suffering from an underwhelming supper, the good folks at this Shipley’s provides a respite and a treat—a freshly glazed warm donut so perfect I was able to forget the lackluster burger I ate at Moon Tower (see my review on them). It’s hard to find simple, good food these days, and even more difficult to find a legit, no frills burger joint, taco shack, or a diner. A basic donut shop? Look no further, my peeps. Shipley’s on...
