On a random, chilly night, we were on the quest to find live music and a hopping bar that was anywhere but midtown. Somehow we stumbled upon The Big Easy and could not be happier. This dive-y bar is tucked away on Kirby and looks like it has been abandoned for years. We walked inside with low expectations. We are two very down to earth girls and up for anything so knew we were in for an adventure. After our initial hesitations we discovered we were in for a treat. We got there around 8:30pm which apparently is very early. The local band, Luther and the Healers, actually goes on stage at 9:30pm unbeknownst to us. Luckily, we stuck around long around to see them play and the crowd file in. The place was soon packed and filled with regulars. I enjoyed watching the amazing couples dance and whirl. If you are looking for a good authentic place with friendly people and phenomenal music, you have found it. I will definitely will be back for...
Read moreThis is a mixed bag for me, I love "dives" this is definitely one! The good: the Band (Los Souldees) was Fantastik! The drinks were strong, but couldn't get a read on the bartenders, half the time there was only one, sometimes 2, the lady was definitely nicer than the guy, but neither were really welcoming (maybe because we're not regulars?) We visit bars all over the World (literally) and this just didn't feel good. On the positive note, the drinks were cheap and again strong, so win some lose some 😆 Lastly, the music (when the Band is playing) is LOUD, so much to the point where I saw several (I assume regulars) with earplugs... it's such a small venue, the Band is great, no need to blast the music like that, it also distorted the sound on those old JBLs. Still give it 4 stars, because it stays true to its roots in being a dive with cheap, strong drinks and good...
Read moreYou would swear this place was a dive right off of the fringes of Bourbon Street in New Orleans if you didn't know any better. First of all, it's a dive, plain and simple, so don't expect 5-star service or cocktails, but the drink prices are great for the area and that's not why you should come here anyway. If you want authentic live blues and the New Orleans sound, it has found a home in Houston here! Every night there's a band rockin the house with plenty of people on the dance floor shakin and groovin. The crowd is about the most diverse of any bar I've been in here in Houston. On any given night you will find people from just about every walk of life. So if you're tired of the same old bar scene, you should check...
