Watershed was my first introduction to authentic German food and I love it.🇩🇪
I host pub quiz there on Tuesdays, so I’ve tried lots of the delicious things on the menu, but I do have a few favorites:
The Königsberger Meatballs! The lemon caper cream sauce is divine.☄️ The Kranken Burger and these caramelized onions 🍔 Fish and Chips that will make Scotland take notice. 🎣 and the Käsespätzle- You have to try this.🧀
They have craft beers to satisfy any craving. Whether it’s a stout, a lager, a hoppy IPA (not my thing, but to each their own), local brew, cider, or a tangy delicious sour (now that’s MY thing) you’re hankering for, they’re 🍺gonna have it. Or try something new: maybe they’ll have a lambic.🍷
And, I saved the best for last: the decor. I don’t know if Eric makes the posters or commissions them, but the Watershed-themed nostalgic movie poster 🎬recreations are brilliant and all the Astroworld/Astrodome ⚾️references add to the Houston nostalgia! The music cassette backdrop behind the beer pulls harkens back to the youth of GenX and they’re not done yet! Because next there are the concert posters from Houston venues from 10, 20, 30, 40 years ago all around!🎫🎸
Watershed is a great place for dates, hanging with old friends, pub quiz night, board game groups, watching the game, or sitting out on the patio. ⛱️Check it out, you’ll like it.
Check the hours before you go. They are different on the weekday and weekends.📆
Try the Bretzel. It’s Delicious!
Don’t forget the...
Read moreGerman style meats, smoked in-house, generously stacked on really good bread. Potato salad with mustard is the best I've had in town outside of my own kitchen (yes, I'm bragging).
The meats were absolutely delicious. We sampled three sandwiches, with pastrami, smoked chicken, or smoked pork loin. We would have been happy with sharing just one of these mountains of meat, so we got to take a lot home. My favorite was the pastrami - better than other delis in town by far. My wife loved the chicken. The pork loin was very good, just not out favorite. It was easy to find a good matching beer for a gourmet combo, though.
Beer is reasonable priced and the variety, thirty choices on tap, means that you can satisfy your particular tastes fairly easily.
Atmosphere is casual, friendly, clean. Outdoor seating available. There's even a bicycle rack, though its placement precludes being used at all (what are they thinking?), But that's only worth 1/4 star because few nuts will try to cycle home after stuffing themselves like we did.
So, rating would be 4.75 stars because of the bike rack, but i almost never give out 5 stars after the first visit, unless it's a $$$$ type of place or I'm only passing through once. This place, though, is cycling distance from our house and $-$$, so it will have plenty of opportunities to get...
Read moreI come here pretty regularly both solo and with friends to watch Astros games, which are played on multiple large flatscreens. While it is not a sports bar, Watershed’s staff/owner and many patrons are fans, so if you vibe with the home team, this will likely be a good spot for you. Watershed is very kid/family friendly while simultaneously welcoming of moderate boisterousness during game time. It is a dynamic that many establishments struggle to maintain, but Watershed does so masterfully. Beer selections are out of this world, with many craft, micro-, and seasonal brews available. The food prices are high, but there is no doubt you are paying for quality; I daresay the cooks are masters of their craft and possibly one of the best kitchen crews in Houston. The food is consistently tasty, fresh and much of the ingredients are scratch made in-house. The grilled cheese and hot potato salad are like none you’ve ever had before. Altogether, Watershed is a gem of the Meryer Plaza and an excellent choice for a leisurely bite, watching the Astros with your pals, or an evening out...
