Recently I had lunch at Johnny's Diner in Hudson, Ohio. Johnny"s Diner is located at the west side of the Hudson Plaza Shopping Center.
If you are entering Hudson on Main Street/Darrow Road, turn west on Streetsboro Street. Hudson Plaza Shopping Center is on the south side of Streetsboro Street.
There is plenty of free off-street parking available in Hudson Plaza Shopping Center - see video under the PHOTO tab.
I rate Johnny's Diner five star for the true diner decor and for the wait staff. Karen is my waitress. She is friendly and enjoys her work. She is the only waitress on the floor today. She is wearing a face mask in late April, 2022. The only Diner worker wearing a face mask. There is a greeter who welcomes you and takes your beverage order. She, too, is friendly with a big sincere smile. A third person, maybe the manager, is helping Karen by bringing the food to the table and, also, helping the greeter bus the tables.
Johnny's Diner decor is authentic and nostalgic for the customer of a certain age. The counter seating brings back fond memories of the ol' Ben Franklin Five and Dime lunch counters. The only item missing from the booths are the ol' wall mounted mini-juke boxes with the little metal tabs to flip through the pages of song listings. Each booth has a glass container of drinking straws like yesteryear. As a reminder of our Covid times, there are plexiglass partitions between each booth. There are authentic period items on the walls from old oil company metal signs, classic pictures of James Dean, etc. Very cool stuff!
My overall rating for Johnny's Diner is four star. The food tastes good but is not outstanding. They have a good selection of choices on their menu. I did like the portion size. Unlike most restaurants today, Johnny's Diner does not serve you a humongous portion of food.
This is my first visit to Johnny's Diner. The Diner has a good and steady flow of customers. Some families and some older folks. Plus, folks were coming in to the Diner for take-away orders too. Johnny's Diner has a lot of loyal, regular customers.
Johnny's Diner is not a greasy spoon Diner. Johnny's Diner is very clean. A nice, friendly Diner to grab a breakfast or lunch.
I started my lunch with a cup of Johnny's Famous Chili. It is a thick, meaty chili with pinto beans. I opted for the onions and chedder cheese topping for an additional cost. I had an unsweetened ice tea to drink. My sandwich is the Route 66 Cheesesteak. It comes with sautéed mushrooms and onions and mozzarella cheese on a Hoagie roll and a choice of side. I selected a side of coleslaw. The food...
Read moreJohnny's Diner has been on my list for a while but is a 30 minute drive for me so I finally stopped in for breakfast. It was worth the trip. The service was very good. They have specials on the board up front and the menu said to ask server for today's selection of homemade deserts. I am glad that I did ask as they had key lime pie. I rarely see it here in Ohio so I told me server that I would have that after my breakfast. The coffee was very good and was topped off several times. I am a big fan of house made corned beef hash and already knew that was my breakfast choice. It is called the Hudson Hash Skillet. It comes with homemade corned beef hash, 2 eggs, and their famous hash browns with a side of toast. I loved it. The corned beef was fresh and the hash browns were crispy as I like it. I have never had them served that way but I loved it. The rye toast was also good. The place had a nice 50's diner look to it. There was a decent crowd on a Saturday at noon so this place must be popular. I finished up with the key lime pie. It was delicious. I wish this was closer to me but I am rarely out in Hudson. I used to work in Hudson 20 years ago and this was a favorite lunch spot when it was the Deli On Rye. The next time I am nearby I will try lunch. I highly recommend...
Read moreI would give zero stars I could. We went today for breakfast and left extremely disappointed. This was our first time at Johnny's Diner. The first waitress brought us our drinks right away, another took our order. We waited as everyone around us got their food. The waitresses and who I'm guessing was the manager, walked passed us continuously serving others, without one time coming back to our table. After 45 minutes, we asked for the bill for our drinks and they looked at us dumbfounded and gathered in the corner to have a conversation before responding to us. The waitress who took our food order stated she didn't know where our ticket was. They were apologetic, but stated that we should have said something earlier. I replied it's not my job, considering the many times they walked past us after taking our order, and not even bothered to come to our table, not even to check if we needed refills the whole time we were there. They gave us our drinks for free. We left and went to Perkins and had a wonderful breakfast and our waitress...
