My household orders food from them ONCE a week. That's how good their food is! But everything went down hill after Christmas. They had a Holiday Special. I thought I would order and save time in the kitchen on Christmas Day. Ordered the food on their website( on 12/13/2023) for a pick up of 12/25/2023 at 1 pm. Cool. Christmas Day comes and my husband goes to grab dinner and they are CLOSED. My household of 6 people have NO Christmas dinner. And EVERYTHING is closed!!! We eat sandwiches for our Christmas dinner. I call them on December 26th for a refund. I was routed to a manager who apologized for their site malfunctioning and taking my order. Offered a $20 virtual gift card to make up for the mishap, as well as my refund. Cool. Cool. Tried ordering from the restaurant again the next week, but the gift card doesn't work on the website. Ok, no worries. Today 1/7/2024 at 6:13pm I called the Humble location to place an order. Immediate language issue. I put the phone on speaker hoping the lady could hear me better! I order the whole chicken special with 3 sides (chaufa rice, yucca fries, and green beans). Informed the worker that I wanted to use my gift card. After being put on hold literally 4 times, she told me that I would have to use it in person. Cool. Place the order in my husband's name. Sent him the gift card. Left it alone. It is now 7:32 pm(they close at 7). My husband gets there at 6:50pm. And they had no order in his name AT ALL!!!!!!! He had to re-order everything. And they could NOT accept the gift card that THEY gave me because " the system was new and the manager didn't know how to fix." I still have no food an hour and 17 minutes after ordering. And my husband is still waiting at the establishment. Paying full price! Never again. Never again. I'm...
Read moreI was recommended Chick Houz by a friend. I have a high bar for this style of food/rotisserie-- I used to frequent Nando's Peri Peri in the UK and I once enjoyed a couple of months in Peru and loved my time there. I am embarrassed it took me this long to get to Chick Houz because it's just down the street from us, but it was delicious! We ordered the whole chicken and three sides special. We had a bigger group, so we ordered two chickens and were able to sample six sides. We get rotisserie chicken regularly from the grocery store because we love to use it for many reasons, so I'll admit that the price is a little tough to swallow when you know you can get one at H-E-B for $7. However, they are definitely a tier above the grocery store chicken-- the chicken is moist and the skin is well-seasoned, so it was very yummy! I was impressed. We had six sides: Yucca fries (excellent), sweet plantains (harder to do take-out with because they get a little mushy in a takeout container, but still good-- I stuck them in the saute pan for a minute to firm them back up), chaufa (typical fried rice, but good for the kids), coleslaw (I'm picky about coleslaw and this is good!), grilled veggies (the seasoning is good-- made up of zucchini, peppers and onions), and green beans with some onions (cooked well). I will say the green sauce is definitely my favorite! We also got the churros. I am not a huge churro fan-- we thought we were getting these for the kids. The adults inhaled most of them. The chocolate sauce served with it is fantastic. I want to try their lomo saltado next time. We...
Read moreI'm a neighborhood resident where this place is and I feel very lucky to have such a great place so nearby. As a Brazilian, to have manioca (fried yucca) as good as this and then have it taken to the next level with the sauces is something very special.
But the star of this show is the chicken. This isn't just some of the best Peruvian chicken I've had, it's some of the best roasted chicken I've ever had (and I've had plenty!). The flavors going on here are unlike anything I've ever had and the sheer tenderness of this chicken is remarkable. The love put into the prep shows with the 24 hour marinade. That rich flavor is present all the way to the bone.
Don't overlook the sides. I'm not sure what sort of magic they do to those green beans but they're unlike anything I've tasted before. I am a fan of green beans but I crave theirs! Plus their Greek salad is incredibly fresh and extremely generous on the olives.
I think this place is one of humbles crown jewel best kept secrets! I'm thankful they came to fall creek, and I will patron them frequently. My youngest son who is not only a allergic to many things but also a picky eater loves their food. Whenever the words "Chick Houz" is mentioned as a dinner option, it's met with smiles...
