I convinced my friends to go to Rising Sun because I have been at least fifty times and usually love it. Today was a very different story. Our server was slightly rude, abrupt, and seemed like she didn’t want to be there. When ordering, we tried to order a bento box and were informed that they were out of lettuce for the salad. We asked if they could give us something else, we were told no and that we would pay the same price either way. Then I was asked if I wanted a second order of Gyoza and I specifically said “no thank you.” She brought it anyway and claimed it was my fault and that I would still need to pay for it. Next, I got my sushi roll (I order the exact same roll every time I’m there) and today it was different from what I’ve had every other time. I asked if I could exchange it and was told no and then was told I was wrong and if I needed to re-read a menu so that she could prove me wrong. She then went and talked to a manager and they kept staring at our table uncomfortably for at least 10 minutes before finally coming over. She wouldn’t give us her name but said she normally doesn’t work on Saturdays. The lack of professionalism and customer service was shocking from the manager. She started by saying “I’ve heard my servers side so I guess tell me yours.” She brought a menu to try to prove me wrong. Then, for an item I didn’t like and didn’t eat because it looked like Coleslaw in a sushi roll, she said it was my fault and she wouldn’t take it off of the bill but the best she could do is give a small percentage off. I have never in my life heard of this happening. I also mentioned that I am a loyal customer and that my team (which is quite large) usually comes here as well and that I’m going to have to recommend they find somewhere else and I was told “well, we don’t need you all. That’s a bullet I’m willing to take.” I was so shocked. If a customer doesn’t like something or it isn’t to standard, you remove it or replace it. As someone who has been working in management in the customer service industry for the past 14 years, it has shown me common sense, sympathy with customers, how to handle situations, and how to be polite and try to find a solution. I always try my best to treat service industry employees with kindness and respect because I know first hand what it’s like. There was no reason to be treated this way. We hadn’t acted up or been rude at all. I was so excited for lunch there today and now this has ruined my loyalty for Rising Sun… it has definitely changed from what...
Read moreI like this sushi spot near my apartment, I like to go when I'm in a good mood! So getting news that I'd be starting a new job was a reason to go get drinks! I took a friend who had never been and our waiter Jessie honestly continuously kept killing the high energy we came in with. My friend is older than me but recently moved back to Texas so they only had the paper form of their Id although only the second page with no picture it was still a valid form of ID, Jessie said it was no good and asked for one with a photo he pulled out his military Id with a photo but it was expired Jessie said that was no good. He tried to show her a picture of his older form of ID that was not expired but was told by Jessie it could not be on a phone. After that we decided to just bite the bullet and only I would get drinks. I ordered a large sake and Moscow mule. It was a lot of Sake and I did not enjoy drinking without my friend so I poured him a cup and let him take a shot of it.
Throughout the course Jessie put in the wrong order for his entrée instead of Yaki Soba being brought out the first time Jessie brought out Yaki Udon. After eating I wanted to order me some shots and thus Jessie said they would not put in my order to the bar because they saw my friend drink some of the sake I ordered. I found that rather annoying considering they denied two valid forms of ID and because I come to the restaurant sometimes I've definitely seen a waiter that's NOT jessie serve drinks to a visibly pregnant person. Maybe we should have that waiter?
To top it off I had asked for a miso soup to go but when the final ticket was brought I realized it was not on there, our leftovers were bagged and by the time we left the miso was brought.
In conclusion. Jessie was a buzz kill and if/when I return and they are my server I will very much ask for a...
Read moreThe Sushi is always superb, and the service is almost always great as well. I've never had a single complaint until this last time that we went, but this bears mentioning. On friday, 10/27/22 I maxed out my allowable overtime before lunch, and my fiance and decide to go in because it probably wouldn't be crowded. Surely enough, the restaurant was at about 10% capacity with plenty of space. In spite of this, our seater, a young man with tattoos and an "IDGAF" look on his face decided to seat us right next to a couple with a baby that was actively shrieking so loud as to be painful to the ears as we walked up. We winced through the entire meal until the child noticed me, and I was able to make silly faces and get him to laugh instead of crying. I don't know if it was a management level decision to seat everyone in the same area, or if it was a personal affront from this young man, but legitimate pain in our ears destroyed the experience, and I'd appreciate whatever change is necessary to not have that happen again. Regardless of all of that, I've had enough great experiences there that I wouldn't hesitate to...
