When I got to the restaurant around 7:45 pm on 7/22/2023. I have to say I was taken aback by how nice the place looked, I was admire the charm of the place. As I walked in I was greeted by the very nice host. I told her I had a rsvp for 8:15 but I was here early and it would be one instead of two and if bar seating was available I would take that. I was seated at a high top because the bar itself was full and I just wanted to make sure everyone had room to breathe. As I sat there at the table the bartender on the right side looked at me twice and not once greeted me nor acknowledge me. I sat at that table for a good minute (15mins) until he asked Smokie not sure if she was the manager or not to see what I wanted. To me that instantly put a damper on my experience because even if you were busy you could have acknowledged and said I'll be with you shortly. Something that the bartender did do that I did not like at all was the fact a couple came in after me and he instantly went over and took their drink orders now what kind of a mess is that?
The drinks that were made were okay. I had two Georgia Derby. I'm not sure if they were made by the same bartender but they actually taste and look different from each other.
I ordered from the Queen Feast menu. I had the wedge salad which was okay but the dressing was good. I wanted to try the lasagna but I recall Smokie saying it wasn't available. I also asked about the meatloaf she mention that it was not available as I believe. So I ordered the Roasted Poussin which was a spring chicken with green beans and stuffing. I wasn't a fan of it but looking back over the menu online I notice I could have substituted poussin for boneless chicken breast. I barely ate anything off the plate.
As I was wrapping up I ordered my dessert to go and asked the bartender for the tab. 2 drinks at $28 plus the $50 meal equaling $101 needless to say I wasn't impressed. If it wasn't for Smokie I would have gotten up after the drink and gone somewhere else. I want to thank her for looking out for me. She was the reason I stayed. Personally this place is a tab bit overpriced but I get it. No need to challenge...
Read moreFirst time at this beautiful estate the last week of April with a colleague - I'm from KC and he's from Charlotte.
Venue: The ambiance, landscaping, decor, interior/exterior design, is truly pristine and had a great attention to detail - all while still keeping the vintage or original feel of the house/mansion. The landscaping and large trees are wonderful to look at whether having a drink or dining outside. Luckily for us, they had just completed their new, great bar area inside. The custom design and features are very, very cool and inviting. This site is a perfect fit for so many categories: happy hour, date night, wedding/reception, clients, work team "get together".
Food: APP: We shared the jumbo shrimp cocktail They didn't skimp or exaggerate on the word "Jumbo" and the homemade cocktail sauce had spice and wonderful flavors Dinner: We both got the same thing - Scallops U10 - which was very good, flavorful, light - but filling. The glaze and drizzle was a perfect pair with the scallops and quinoa. Unfortunately, our own fault, we got the same thing, instead of trying multiple/sharing multiple dishes.
Staff: The head bartender is an artist to say the least and I realize the label of "artist" is thrown around often. He/they have their own custom made cocktails but his creative and experienced mind allows him to make custom made drinks based on preferences: He'll ask: what kind of liqueur, flavors, smokey, sweet/spicy, etc... Wonderful bar area for date night or happy hour with friends for custom made drinks and a performance of delivering said drinks.
Unfortunately, I only have pics from their custom version and presentation of their smokey old fashion. Attached.
The owner and wait staff were all very kind, inviting, prompt, knowledgeable, and happy to share the history of the property.
The venue, food, staff, and drinks/bartender we're all very impeccable and I hope to return every quarter when I visit Charlotte for work. I highly, highly...
Read moreThe house and grounds are absolutely beautiful, and we enjoyed the decor. After being seated, the ambiance was an entirely different story. The tables were cramped together and it was incredibly loud, and uncomfortable chairs did not lend for us wanting to stick around for a leisurely meal. I could barely talk to or hear my husband over the noise.
We each ordered a cocktail, which were expensive as anything in uptown Charlotte. However, they tasted good and were generous pours.
The food was wholly disappointing. We started with shrimp cocktail and deviled eggs. The deviled eggs were promised to be a rotating weekly feature, but they were just standard deviled eggs with a sprinkle of Cajun seasoning and some scallions. They weren’t anything to write home about; but they were, relatively, the highlight of the meal. The shrimp was also fine - large shrimp and appropriately cleaned. They were, unfortunately, overcooked. The cocktail sauce was squeezed straight from a Heinz bottle. It was essentially chilled ketchup. I ordered the Parmesan crusted salmon, and my husband ordered the lamb. The salmon was under seasoned and bland. The lamb was terrible - it was half fat and sinew. After five minutes of knife work, my husband was able to get maybe 3-4 ounces of edible meat. The seasoning on the lamb was black pepper, and that’s about it, rendering it simultaneously over seasoned and under seasoned. The smashed fingerling potatoes were un (not under) seasoned and undercooked. The highlight of the lamb was the paltry four stalks of baby asparagus.
Overall the service was amiable and well-intentioned, but slow.
Wouldn’t go back. If you’re going to pay this much, there are many other places that are better stewards of...
