This place used to be great. But three weeks ago (my 20th visit to this store) I met some new employees I haven't seen there before, and I had a less than stellar experience (especially compared to my previous ones).
I saw a decent deal on an used Xbox S Console there. They told me it was a 1 TB model. When I took it home (I live an hour away) it had the wrong power cord. I tried to return it (feeling buyer's remorse - not their fault -except for my dissatisfaction about all the driving I needed to do and the fact my purchase was incorrect in the first place) but they unfriendly refused. Didn't seem remorseful at all for all the driving back and forth because they couldn't do their job right the first time. Furthermore, I asked them to test the console because they didn't get the correct power cord in their in the first place - I just wanted to make sure I didn't need a return trip - they were sulky and whiny about that BASIC customer service as well. SO, I take it home, turn it on - and, yay, it works - but the device has 1/2 the storage I was told when I bought it (500 GB vs 1 TB).
Here are my suggestions for this store if they want to keep customers and avoid doing this again to anyone else:
Have your employees learn more - I asked them basic questions and specs on the used Xbox One S Console - not only did they tell me the wrong storage price - they did not have an answer to many of my basic questions. I knew more about the Xbox one and one s than them. I wouldn't mind as much - but lying or not checking proper specs (when they are important as storage space) is unacceptable.
Allow customers to return product. There is no reason to refuse a return one day afterwards so unkindly. At the very least, cite a return policy and don't treat a customer badly for wanting to do a return.
Give better customer service - if you do something wrong (and the customer is not just being picky) at the very least try to help them and make them feel better by giving friendly customer service. Fix the problem. Be professional. Be helpful or at least let the customer leave with an apology or at least some satisfaction that you care about their business and have accountability for your actions. This customer is not always right - but they are they reason your business exists. Treat them like they are that important.

Read moreFAKE GAME. I want to start off by saying that I love these stores and have been frequenting the Huntersville and Mooresville locations for years. I have never had any problems until very recently. A few years ago I purchased a copy of Pokemon Emerald from the Huntersville location. I was told it was a genuine copy and I played it and had zero problems with the game itself. Recently, I've been in the process of moving and have been trying to sell some of my old games and brought Pokemon Emerald back to sell/trade. They immediately informed me that the game was fake and they couldn't help me. They didn't even flinch when I told them the game had come from their store years earlier. I bought the game to play for nostalgia purposes and would have been fine buying it if they had told me it was a replica, but the bothersome part is that they passed it off as a real thing. I in no way expected them to buy back a fake copy of a game for full price, but as a regular customer I was rightfully frustrated and felt like I had been scammed. I called in the next day and the guy who checked the game, I believe his name is Zach, told me he believed that I bought the copy from their store but there was nothing they could do about it since I didn't have a receipt. Because the purchase happened so long ago I didn't have one. At that point, I really just wanted some sort of assurance that they appreciated my patronage and they were sorry that this happened. Instead it seemed as if they just wanted to get me off the phone as fast as possible and it soured my relationship with a store I had loved for years. If you are buying games, be sure to save your receipt and do a legit check before/right after you leave the store. Zach assured me that "the staff is trained to recognize fakes", but whoever checked the game sold to me needed more training. I'm attaching a picture of the fake game I bought (it's the green one) as well as a sticker that they gave me when I purchased the game. Since they no longer give away the sticker, I hope it at least demonstrates how long I've been a regular. I have a bunch more of them stuck all over my possessions. I have bought 100% of my video game merch from here since discovering it existed and 100% of my manga since they started offering that too so I'm just very disappointed that...
Read moreFirst I want to say I have been going to video game world for years and never had a bad interaction. That being said, they are clearly not what they used to be. I walked in last Saturday a few minutes after they opened and the guy sitting at the register didn't even look at me. I said hello and he just said hey without even looking. I didn't catch his name but he was a skinny guy with dark hair and a short beard. I have bought and sold here many times and they typically paid 50% or more of what the items sell for on their website. I brought in an almost new red Wii Mini with a controller and cords that was selling for $80 on their website. I also had 3 extra controllers, 3 nun chucks, 3 wheels, and about 20 games including Mario Kart which sells for $35 on their website and Rock Band World Tour which sells for $18. After looking through the items for all of 5 minutes he said yeah I can give you $30 for everything. Obviously I was shocked. I explained to him that just the Wii alone was selling for $80 on their website and Mario Kart for $35. He said yeah those are the only two things I'm interested in and we only pay 30% of value here (which was never the case in my past visits). He ended up raising the offer to $45. So I slid the entire stack of games and controllers away from those items and said, so you're offering $45 just for this Wii and game. He said, "sure I guess". He wanted the entire stack of games, controllers, wheels and nun chucks for free. I sold him the Wii and asked why no interest in the games? He told me that they were all scratched. I went through each one of those games the night before and made 100% certain that there weren't ANY scratches on them before bringing them there. In fact, 90% of those games came FROM VIDEOGAMEWORLD and I never even played them. I got the feeling that he just didn't want to stand up and have to test the games. I ended up bringing all of the stuff he said was useless and wanted for free to GameStop and got another $40 from them. They were much friendlier, more knowledgeable and easier to deal with.
My advice, until they get some people in their willing to do their job the right way, just go to GameStop. Save yourself the drive and frustration. Long time customer but I will...
