Japanese Teppan-style restaurant in Huntington Beach (one block south of Beach + Warner). This is actually a local chain, with a total of 7 restaurants all over SoCal, from HB all the way north to downtown LA and Pomona. I actually discovered them through their food truck, which is known to be around major events in SoCal. Let me just start by saying that the food is great. The meat is high-quality --whether you go for NY Strip or filet--, and so is the salmon. I had the NY Strip bowl and it was very tender and tasty. I'm not sure going for the much more expensive filet mignon is worth the price. The pricing is a little perplexing, with sides being on the costly side. Also, there are surcharges if you want fried rice or Yakisoba noodles instead of white rice. And they're not small surcharges... Although not cheap, the Yakisoba noodles are excellent and wouldn't lose in comparison with what I've had in Japan. My wife had the grilled salmon, and she absolutely loved it. Service is good and relatively fast. Any faster and it wouldn't be that good. Service is good and corteous. All in all, a solid choice for this kind of food. It's not the cheapest (and if you know how much cheaper this food is in Japan you'd cringe. Of course, this isn't...
Read moreWorst experience today. Liz took my order and I asked for a Philadelphia roll with salmon on top. She finished ringing in my order, everything seemed cool until she came back a few minutes later asking if I ordered the right roll. I sure did. With salmon on top. She said they didn’t have a roll like that. I said I asked for my original request. She tried to have me look at the rolls and verify. I did. Philly roll, add salmon on top!
She didn’t listen to my request at all. I’ve asked for this plenty of times here with no issue. I get my order home and it’s a totally different roll with imitation crab inside like I didn’t want.
I called back to get my order fixed and she argued with me saying I got the right one. I explained what I was looking at and she still said she gave me the right one.
End of story…. Listen to requests and be willing to fix the mistakes. If they would have fixed it, I would have been happy. Things happen. Now I have something I paid for, didn’t order and I don’t want to eat it. Thanks Liz for your lack of customer service.

Read moreOrdered New York & Shrimp to-go, white rice w/vegetables adding Miso soup. White rice was the best part, don't get me wrong the food was good just not worth $45.14. The Teriyaki sauce tasted like it was made by a white guy trying too hard to cook Japanese food.
The vegetables were cooked perfectly! I became a bit spoiled for Japanese food in HB from eating at Matsu (Beach & Talbert) since 1978, but this was okay food, I really can't complain much. I am wondering why at 7:30PM on a Wednesday night the dining room was a ghost town?!?
It was the best Japanese food I've had on Beach Blvd. in HB for a long time. Matsu has gone downhill since it changed ownership in the 90's, but I think I found my new favorite Japanese restaurant to eat at in HB.
I think I was happy with my food overall, I'll give it a solid 7 out of 10. If the staff were a bit more friendly, I'd give you another point, let's see what happens the next time I visit this restaurant.
