Had the spaghetti, ravioli, fried haddock with sides of salad, "buttered potatoes" and table rolls. TL;DR: Food was absolutely dreadful. Service and decor seemed nice enough.
Spaghetti/Ravioli half-half dinner: ravioli was soggy and flavorless. Noodles were waterlogged to the point of bland mush. Meat sauce could have come from a high school cafeteria and I wouldn't have known the difference.
The waitress-recommended haddock was a couple filets haphazardly smashed together, breaded, and deep-fried with seemingly no seasoning or flavor. In fact, I'm not sure this restaurant even knows what seasoning is. And that misstep would almost be forgivable if the fish had at least been cooked well--it wasn't. Dry as a bone; I feared I might choke a few bites in. The same lack of seasoning and flavor similarly describes the potatoes, but at least those were boiled to a decent doneness.
The rolls were still doughy. Seriously, even the rolls sucked. I'm not sure how they managed to make rolls bad, but they did.
Final note: I'm always rooting for the local underdog spots. I want to support local spots that make great food that really stick it to the big chains and keeps our town unique. I went in wanting to love it , but walked out severely disappointed.
The retro decor, along with the old-school waitress uniforms were pretty cool. If you want to take a step back in time, Jim's is your place! Back to a time before life on earth evolved a sense of taste. Sorry. That wasn't nice. But really, don't eat the food here. Or! Someone who knows the chef or owners, please talk to them. A little care in noodle prep, some seasoning here or there... something! Anything. Only direction to go...
Read moreThe restraunt was nice and felt like you had traveled back to when times were much simpler and people were much nicer. I had been looking foward to eating here as I drive by the restraunt every day. I had tried to come on a Sunday but they were closed and again the next day but they were unfortunately closed Monday, too. I was excited about trying the spaghetti as I am a pasta lover. Sadly, when I finally tried it, I was extremely unhappy. I had it with the meat sauce and it tasted like eating sand. The taste was disgusting and reminds you of a canned hotdog sauce you would find at a supermarket. I ate 2 bites and was disgusted and couldn't eat no more. It was soaked in water and came to the table setting in a puddle of it. The same with my fiance. The French bread was the only part that we liked, except for the coconut cream pie. The pie was delicious and I could see myself having it again but its nothing special. You could buy a better one at Walmart. I didn't try anything else, for I had spent over $40 for 2 people already and over half of it was spent on the spaghetti that was horrible. The service was great and couldnt complain at all except for the woman working at the cashier. She was uncomfortable to be around, rude and was short with customers. Other than that, all I could complain about was one customer who thought it was a must that everyone listen to the conversation that he was having on the phone. It was extremely loud, long and made quite a few customers, including me, very unhappy with him. If you are coming for the "famous" spaghetti, dont waste your time! I dont know how they can have...

Jim's Steak & Spaghetti is a fixture in local downtown. With a fixed menu and unchanging prices, it's a favourite of all ages: retirees wanting a throwback to 1960s diners, families looking for a cheap but healthy dinner out, and local university students craving a home-cooked meal. Students get a free slice of pie with dinner if they show their college ID. During Strawberry Pie Week every summer, locals line up around the block; in 2018 over 10,000 slices were sold in 5 days.
Make sure to bring cash or your checkbook. To keep prices low, they only accept payment in cash or check -- no cards means they don't lose money to card surcharge fees, lowering costs for customers. They do have an ATM near the entrance in case you forget to withdraw cash before arriving. :)
