Edit - 1 star - December 2016: I'm going to have to adjust my review for this unfortunate experience. Today I went into Maggie's to grab some Beef Stew to go for me and my girlfriend. When I arrived home and pulled out the stews, I found the bottom of the container to be hot, but the top extremely cold, I'm not sure why the beef stew was exhibiting a thermocline, but I'm fairly certain this is not the manner in which this was meant to be served.
I contacted Maggie's and spoke with a female who when I asked to speak with management said that she was. I explained the situation with my half & half hot/cold stews and she suggested I could bring it back by to be "reheated" mind you I live on the other side of the city. I explained this was a bit of a distance to drive just to have some soup reheated when it should have been hot from the start. She asked me if I had a microwave at home... at this point I just dropped it because clearly this wasn't going anywhere.
I paid $8.99 for two bowls, a total of around 20$ after tax. Two bowls of half hot half cold stew. I drove across town to buy this, because normally the stuff is great, but the lack of customer service involved with correcting this kitchen error was quite off putting. For someone who eats there at least a few times a month this is very unacceptable.
4 stars - September 2016: Good food, good beer selections. I really like the beef stew. Great stuff. Main issue is the smoke when it is crowded. Lunch time it's not a problem. 3 stars when crowded 4 the rest of the time. Keep...
Read moreOld review, reposting on Google. We went to Maggie Meyer's for trivia on Thursday night. There weren't enough people around for them to conduct trivia, but it was an enjoyable experience nonetheless. Our orders were taken by the bartender, who seemed to be running the whole place by himself. There was a large amount of people there for just one person, but he handled it very professionally and had a kind and pleasant demeanor. The food was surprisingly good -- much better than traditional bar food. We had pretzel bites as an app, and they tasted like a sort of savory beignet with strong mustard dipping sauce. We also split the Reuben, which got very high marks. It was served with hash-style potatoes that were delicious, crispy and with faint herb flavors. I had a personal pepperoni pizza. Although a little greasy and perhaps slightly light on the cheese, the crust was delicious and crunchy, just how I like it. The pepperoni was good, too, and the crust was somewhere between thick and thin. Only one downside: it is a smoking establishment. We had read that most of the time the smoke isn't too thick, but that wasn't the case. We were surrounded by the other patrons, smoking cigarettes and even a cigar. We all reeked afterwards. Although we knew that going in and I can't get mad about something I was warned about, I still wish the smoke could have been a...
Read moreThe atmosphere is fun. But the bar service was something to be desired. It was a busy evening and understandably it takes some time to get a drink. However, we were standing at the bar for at least 10 minutes with a bartender putting away glasses, felt like were being ignored. I thought he was a barback so didn't bother him. But then he began to serve other folks while obviously looking at us and not asking if we needed a drink - this continued for some time. Once he was done serving others he went back to putting away glasses and never came to us. Finally, another bartender took our drink order.
Once we finished our drinks a third bartender took our empty glasses and moved on. She didn't ask if we needed another drink. There were multiple times where the back bar of the bar was empty - zero staff. We did want another drink but, ultimately, after feeling like we weren't being seen we had to get up and stand in a line to close our tap. Which is weird because we were sitting at the bar the whole time. But maybe it works different at Maggie's?
I'm not sure when we will be back. But hopefully the experience will be better because it seems like a fun...
