Newk's Eatery — Restaurant in Huntsville

We ate lunch at Newk's today while visiting Huntsville and unfortunately it was far below expectations. We've eaten at other Newk's in the Nashville area for years and it has been a reliable place for good sandwiches and soups. Portion size was small, my French dip was tiny compared to past visits. We also ordered a pizza and it was on par with lower-end frozen pizza and somewhat burnt. Soups were extremely salty. I did like my veggie salad with green goddess dressing. Staff was friendly and attentive and brought the food out fast. This location appeared very worn out, dated, and sorely in need of renovation. The booth was so small it was uncomfortable for our small group. Lastly, it appears that Newk's hasn't evolved with the times to offer more variety, fresh, and plant-forward options or new items of any kind on the menu, just the same old stuff with smaller portion sizes. We will not be visiting this...

We stopped here for lunch today because we used to love eating at Newk's when we lived in Hot Springs several years ago. Although the employees were very friendly and helpful, unfortunately, the food was only mediocre. The Tomato Basil soup was extremely salty, and I was unable to eat all of it. My Strawberry salad had so many onions that it was hard to taste anything else. My husband had a Chicken Bacon Ranch Sandwich, and he said it was dry and didn't have much flavor. For the meal we had...1 full sized sandwich and a half salad, plus one half salad and a cup of soup, plus 2 drinks.....it was almost $40. We thought that was a little pricey for the quality of the food. The other disappointment was that they apparently no longer offer the "round table" which used to have condiments, roasted garlic, and various items to enhance your meal. Not a very good experience. We went there on Sunday, 3 Aug 2014 around 6 pm and our order was taken by a short dark skinned lady. She seemed like she did not want to be there and she seemed like she didn’t want to serve us. Seemed very bored or uncaring. Not a whole lot of acknowledgment from her. The restaurant was not clean. The table we went to first had crumbs and most of the tables looked like they were wiped with a dirty towel. They all had wide streaks. There were also tables with the remainders of previous customers and they stayed that way until we left 50 minutes later. There were about 4 of them. Our food was brought out by the tall light skinned lady and she seemed happier and friendly. We have visited the Newks on Airport Rd and that place was awesome and well taken care of.
