This place was AMAZING! I've been waiting for so long for a place like this to come to Hutchinson and I hope it stays a really long time because the good was so good!. (Warning: I was so excited for the food that we had already started eating when I remembered to take pictures.
My husband got the Spicy Chicken Ramen and I got the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen (with Kimchi added). My husband liked the ramen and had no complaints about it outside the realm of it was a different experience for him. Me, as someone who loves Ramen, had a lot to say. It was absolutely delicious. The broth was perfect, the pork belly was tender, the kimchi was very tasty, and all the other veggies tasted great. I've never had bamboo shoot so I can't comment on the taste of that, but for a first time I didn't hate it. My only issue is I believe my ramen was supposed to have bean sprouts but there was none on my ramen. The bowls you get are HUGE! So well worth the $12 a bowl for what we got. Also. On the spicy ramen they ask you about heat intensity. Our awesome waiter offered to bring a bit of extra chili oil for me so I could make mine spicier if I wanted it spicier. It ended up being perfect though. So if you are unsure about the heat I would say get Mild and then ask for a side of chili oil to adjust for yourself.
We also got 3 appetizers because, as I said, I was really excited to try this place and try food I've never gotten to have before. So we got the grilled tofu app, the Takoyaki (not the yakitori version) app, and the Sesame Balls with red bean paste.
I personally didn't feel the grilled tofu was worth the $6. It felt like a relatively small portion for $6 (you get 3 kinda thin pieces) but also just not enough sauce for me. However the sauce was really tasty and the tofu was cooked very well. If you get it, I would recommend a bit of extra sauce for it. I will say though that I don't eat a ton of tofu so it might be more worth the price than I realize.
The Takoyaki was DELICIOUS to be perfectly honest. It tasted really good. Unfortunately I was not able to continue eating it. I have Sensory Processing Disorder which effects my ability to eat some foods over texture. Sadly the drastic contrast between the softness inside the Takoyaki and the octopus activated my gag reflex so I could not finish the dish. I gave it to a friend after we left though and she loved it. They were cooked very well, texture of the actual ball it's self was great, and the flavor was good. I just couldn't handle the octopus (I need to see if they can make it without the octopus next time).
The star of the apps though was the Sesame Balls. OMG THEY ARE SO GOOD! They are actually a dessert. They aren't salty, they are sweet. Not over bareingly so though. Like just the perfect amount. They were so good that I told my hubs that if he ever wants to surprise me with a treat to head to this place and get me some sesame balls to go. You get 6 of them for the $6. They ARE rather small, but omg they are worth the money. I loved them so much. HIGHLY recommend them.
Now I couldn't give them the full 5 stars because when our Ramen came out it did seem like it could have been hotter. It wasn't cold by any means. It was hot. It just seemed like it wasn't as hot as it should be. Also for some reason we got the tofu... then immediately the ramen... and we were half way through the ramen before we got our other two apps. I DO chalk this up to the fact that it is a new resturant though and the staff seemed rather under pressure and maybe a bit overwhelmed with how many people were in the resturant (we went on a sunday at 6:30pm).
I'm sure these are all things that will be ironed out the longer they are here. So give the staff a bit of grace guys and understand they are just getting into the swing of things. Waiter was ON TOP of our drinks the whole night. The food was delicious. The prices are fair.
If you want to try something new I'd say head on over there when you can and if you like Japanese food than I don't see you being...
Read moreVery upset and disappointing dining experience — I will definitely not return and cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone.
I ordered 13 pieces of salmon sashimi, but they served a mixed plate with only 3 pieces of salmon. I was extremely disappointed because I only eat salmon — I don't eat other types of sashimi. When I pointed out that I specifically ordered 13 pieces of salmon, the server simply replied that "the chef decides the assortment." However, there was no such information stated on the menu, and she never explained this when I placed the order. This is misleading and unacceptable. My husband ordered a set meal that came with a choice of either soup or pan-fried dumplings. He clearly chose dumplings, but they brought soup instead. When we pointed this out, the server casually said she thought he ordered soup. She never confirmed the order properly, and not even a simple apology was offered — completely unprofessional. Throughout the meal, no server came by to check if we needed anything. Even after we finished our food and were clearly ready to pay, no one came over with the bill — we were completely ignored. When paying the bill, I mentioned that the menu does not clearly state that the sashimi selection is up to the chef. The server showed zero accountability, didn't even offer a basic apology, and the overall attitude was indifferent and careless.
I visited this restaurant and gave them 5 stars 2 years ago, but now I would score them -5 if possible. Not sure if the owner is still the same person as before. In summary, the food quality, communication, and service were all far below acceptable standards. This restaurant is not worth visiting. Regarding the owner's response, here is my reply: Thank you for your response. I would like to clarify a few points, as some of your statements are inaccurate and quite concerning. First, regarding the sashimi: your menu does not clearly state that the 13-piece sashimi is a mixed assortment chosen by the chef. There is a photo next to the item, but as you know, menu photos are for reference only and often contain multiple items that are not included in every order. If the sashimi selection is entirely up to the chef, and requesting all salmon costs extra, this should have been verbally explained by your staff at the time of ordering — which did not happen. I was never informed about any extra charge for salmon-only sashimi, nor was I given the option to pay more. Therefore, saying I fabricated the situation is completely false. Miscommunication or lack of clear explanation from your staff cannot be blamed on customers. Secondly, regarding the service: I have no intention of attacking your employee personally, but professionalism requires acknowledging mistakes, especially when wrong items are delivered — such as bringing soup instead of dumplings. More importantly, when a customer expresses disappointment, the basic expectation is an apology, not defensive excuses. I never received a sincere apology from your staff, nor was there appropriate follow-up during the meal. To the best of my memory, the times she approached our table were: to take our order, to deliver the food in a few rounds, to bring the bill (but as I requested to look at the menu again, she did not leave the bill at that time), and finally to bring the bill and the to-go boxes. Lastly, I find your legal threat highly unprofessional and unnecessary. I shared an honest review based on my experience, which I am entitled to do. Suggesting legal action against a disappointed customer does not reflect well on your business image. Instead of threatening, perhaps focus on improving communication, menu clarity, and staff training to avoid future misunderstandings. I have no intention of escalating this further, but I will stand by my review, which reflects my...
Read moreWait Staff today like most days were mediocre and walked around like they didn't know what they were doing I've come a handful of time and can report most of the food was okay but not much that stands out. However today was a especially bad service day. Me and my wife both ordered the salmon and were to say the very least disappointed in our meals we try and talk with management about remedying the situation as I am no longer hungry and my wife having lost her appetite we kindly ask for the to at the least discount our meal to the price of a similar dish outside of the meat used in the dish after a the briefest waits we had all night managment comes back and explains there is nothing they can do which I know to be false as I have worked in food service before said the reason our food was burnt was because it was merely well done which it was not and that the way they make salmon must be different then what I have had in the past I simply explain that as someone who has cooked salmon the way they have described that this was not merely well done but instead over cooked I paid full price for the food but fear this will bemy wife's and I last visit. Until the situation can be amended I highly recommend if you are looking for good Asian cuisine at their price range you look at Mr. Cao's instead and/or in a different town as I have never had a bad experience like...
