My girlfriend wanted to meet for lunch and she picked Be Thai. I'm so happy she picked this joint cause they have been on my to eat list for a while. I love trying new Thai restaurants in the valley. I wish I lived closer to this joint, I would have tried them out a long time ago.
I remember this joint in the late 90's being Yen Ching. Then it changed into another Chinese restaurant after. This restaurant is in such a neat venue but it with time, it has slowed down a lot. This venue used to be buzzin back in the day. I will always have fond memories hanging out in this area. Grabbing dinner, playing at the arcade, grabbing coffee and of course watching the newest movies.
I had finished my client early so I headed to the restaurant. I did arrive 45 minutes before our meet up time but I decided to head in. I was greeted by a my server. She told me to sit where I wanted so I grabbed a booth. There were a couple tables that she was dropping food off at before she dropped off some menus. No biggie, I looked at their menu online so I got to see what they all has. Since I was going to hang out for a minute, I ordered fried tofu and a lychee green tea to keep me company till my friend comes.
The fried tofu was so good! They were crispy on the outside, perfectly fried golden. The inside was soft. It came with a sweet and sour dipping sauce that had peanuts i. it. All together was was the best bite! I was planning on saving half of the fried tofu for my friend but I ended up eating all of it, I couldn't resist. The lychee green tea was very good! It is on the sweeter side so I did water it down a bit. It ended up being just right.
My friend showed up and we both got lunch ordered. I was still hungry even though I smashed all of the fried tofu. I was debating from the shrimp papaya salad or the fried chicken wings. They both sounded so good! I ended up going with the the green papaya salad with shrimp. I got it in mild. Thai people can eat the hell out of spicy food and I'm not that daring withThai peppers so I felt like mild would be safe spice level for me.
My papaya salad was beautifullyplated! It was on a fresh lettuce leaf. Everything looked so clean and fresh. It had a nice amount of green beans in it. The shrimp on top looked plump. It was a hearty amount. The papaya was crunchy and flavorful. The green beans were also very crunchy. The shrimp was cooked just right! The only negative thing about the salad was the spice level. I did ask for mild but it was really spicy. I did talk to my server about it. She checked in the back to make sure it was mild. The chef said the Thai peppers they have in were spicier than normal. She was kind and took my salad back to the kitchen. They added more papaya salad to dull the spice down for me. It worked! It was much better and I didn't have to eat ice after every bite of it. I ate a much as I could but ended up packing more than half of it to take home.
I'm happy I got to have lunch here today. The food was so good! So fresh! Our server was the sweetest and did such a great job taking care of us. Being in this area brought back so many fun memories. Be Thai has officially been marked off my to eat list and will now be placed on my come back list. I look forward to my next batch of papaya salad...
Read moreWe tried Be Thai this week after a recommendation from a friend. The food and service was excellent! We ordered the crab rangoons, tom kha gai soup, pad thai, fried rice, and duck curry(recommend by our server). As a self described thai food connoisseur the food was fantastic. the tom kha gai had such a fresh coconut flavor and a great spicy kick that balanced so well with the fish sauce and creamy coconut flavor. The crab rangoons were sweet and savory and light and delicate! The pad thai for me personally was not my favorite dish but it was still delicious(i'm just not a pad thai fan) The best dish was the duck curry which i would never have ordered if our server didn't tell us to. Huge juicy pieces of duck with crispy skin on top of a bed of veggies and a tangy peanut and tomato based curry sauce that was thick. I could have drank that curry sauce. The fried rice was very typical thai style with big chunks of tomato and cucumber with plenty of egg and chicken, loved it.
The thing I admired the most about all the food was that they are heavy handed with the protein! You definitely get your moneys worth with every dish.
I also ordered a Thai tea which I could tell was freshly brewed as it was very strong and perfectly sweet.
My new favorite thai place. The decor is plain and simple and the vaulted ceilings create a pretty loud restaurant if you have loud talkers next to you which is why i only gave atmosphere 4 stars but that is not the...
Read moreMy companion and I had lunch here. They are newly opened so I expect them to improve in the future.
The restaurant is located in the spectrum movie center near Overland and Cole. The decor is not very warm. Cement floors and fairly stark ambience.
Service was very cordial. They are really aiming to please.
The lunch menu provides a cup of soup, an appetizer and a main course all for $11.99. That's a great deal.
I had the yellow curry with tofu and chose the vegetarian spring roll appetizer. These all come on the same plate with white rice. My companion chose the Himaparn with chicken and the other appetizer choice, potsticker.
On this day the meals were accompanied by a cup of Tom Kha soup. The other possibility is Tom Yum soup, depending on the day. The soup broth was very salty but the bowl was filled with tofu, carrots, onions and celery. Very hearty and tasty.
My yellow curry was thin but tasty. The potatoes were slightly undercooked but there were lots of carrots and tofu as well. The vegetarian pot sticker was crisp and had a wonderful assortment of fillings. It was really tasty.
My wife's entree was very, very good. It was very subtly flavored with an undertone of chili that just hit the nose. Really nice. And the pot stickers were very crispy and also tasty.
Lunch here is a great deal and the food is pretty good. As I said earlier, I expect that the food will...
