Cali KC — Restaurant in Independence

I am originally from California, but currently residing in New York. I traveled 16 hours for the Silver Gloves boxing tournament so while here I was looking for authentic Mexican food. There are a lot of options in the area, but I went with Cali KC because of the food options as well as the reviews. It did not disappoint! 13 of us came to eat here yesterday , this is a hole in the wall spot.. (if you know, you know.. the hole in the wall restaurant are the best!) the hospitality was excellent, all of our food was flavorful and fresh.. this absolutely had the authentic flavor of what I got back home! The verde posole came with all the works and was soo flavorful, delicious (do not pass it up!!!) The tortas and quesadillas are huge ! They will most definitely feed 2! Home made tortillas, the rice had lots of flavor , the green salsa was bomb, the aqua Fresca .. don’t even get me started! Every person at our table raved about the food.. in fact It was so good that we ate there again today! Big shout out to the hostess Yureli , she had the best energy! Thank you girl for taking care of us, even how you answered the phone made my day!

So I love their food!! I visit often and I’m glad they are super close to me.

However today my experience was not up to par.

Normally I call in my order because I know it’s going to take done time. But today they didn’t answer. So I went in and they were SO BUSY. The place was packed. So I placed my order waited over 20 mins for my cheese enchilada plate. I head home which is literally around the corner.

My food is COLD. my enchiladas had none melted cheese. It was just shredded cheese. My beans and rice were also cold.

I chopped IT up to they were really busy. But I have NEVER received cheese enchiladas and the cheese was not melted.

I popped it in the microwave and all is well.

Would I go...

Expect to spend $20-$25 per person. I rave about this place. I have ate here almost every week since she used to be in the gas station. However, it seems the bigger they got the more attitudes they give. Obviously the server does not have any customer service skills or listening skills. It wasn't always this way. Hope it changes because this is the reason why a lot of Mexican restaurants go out of business.

Shout out to her daughter who is also a server there which we loveeee! Always understanding and prompt. This is why we continue to go back along with...
