An excellent steakhouse in every regard, from food to service to ambience. It is also quite busy, well worth getting reservations for supper if you’re going on a Saturday night as we did. We started off by ordering their cornbread for two, which came out along with two hot yeast rolls. All of the bready stuff was seriously good, and I say that as a bread snob. For our entrees, I ordered the set of bacon-wrapped 5-ounce filet portions, along with green beans and an upgraded side of mushrooms. Everything was delicious. My husband had the ribeye along with fries and broccoli, and greatly enjoyed his food, too. We had to splurge on dessert as well, getting a KC Irish Cream Coffee and a bread pudding with flambé. The hot spiked coffee was tasty and potent, but the bread pudding was truly a sensation. Our server lit it on fire right at our table. The portion was large—definitely a dessert to share—and rich, with a thick custard top and bready bottom within a lush sugary sauce with islands of sliced peaches. I love bread puddings and this was up there among the best—people should come here for this dessert alone. Really an amazing restaurant, one that fully lives up to the ratings hype.

The New York Strip paired with garlic butter sauteed mushrooms was an absolute top notch dish. A mouth watering juicy tender steak finished with the perfect amount of sear. However the mashed potatoes were a tad lacking in the flavor department. The Glazed Salmon was arguably the best I've had the pleasure of eating. Again, the perfect amount of sear on both the asparagus and the salmon filet. The Glazed Salmon was very moist yet firm. The filet had a meaty thickness throughout unlike a cut from the tail end of the fish. The asparagus was perfect al dente with delectable little bits of char on the tips. Our dinner rolls exteriors were a smidgen on the hard side but the warm whipped butter that accompanied them softened them wonderfully. Mixed greens salad with the house dressing is my recommendation to start your meal with. I would take a bottle of that wonderful house dressing home if they sold it. The bartender seemed very knowledgeable and I took his recommendation on a shot of sipping whisky to end the meal. This steak house will be one of my preferred dining establishments from here forward when I am in the KC area.

Thank you so very much Hereford House for having the waiter Andrew V 231 has my waiter he did a most excellent job at serving me and my Uncle and Aunt it was my uncle's 90th birthday he had a wonderful meal and he really enjoyed the Billionaire Chocolate Cake. My uncle and aunt both had the 7 oz filet, and my uncle said they cooked it just to perfection their side dishes were, of course, green beans and baked potato. I had the bacon-wrapped filet medallions the twin 5 oz cuts wrapped in bacon. My two side dishes were caramelized cremini mushrooms and smoked gouda and bacon mac and cheese. Andrew, thank you for your time, talent, and energy. I appreciate and value you for your customer service and being a most excellent waiter. You are working with a great team of people, and remember TEAM stands for Together Everyone Achieves More. So remember, for a great meal and a great time to be had by all go to the Hereford House in Independence, Missouri, I highly recommend it.

We had my aunts birthday party Saturday evening at this independence location. It started off bad as they had the wrong times for reservations and then they sat us in the wrong spot and made us move after we had already sat down. Then when we did sit down the waiter was horrible. It took almost an hour for drink orders to be taken and another 30 minutes to get kids cups for the kids because they brought out a regular size cup for the children that were 3 and 4. Then we waited another 20 minutes to order and when everyone else’s salads came out, we brought up that we didn’t get our salad and the Gary got an attitude and brought them back out 10 minutes later and didn’t even apologize. Every time we asked him for anything, when we actually saw him, he had an attitude and would get upset because we wanted something. The food came out and half of the orders were wrong and had to be sent back. Then in the end when we finally got our check, the waiter had an attitude and I asked for the Manager as I had finally had enough. He laughed and turned around and tried to stare me down, as if he wanted to fight me. After I spoke to the Manager nothing was done and he seemed to be unconcerned. As we were leaving and I was grabbing my son Gary was walking by and stood right next to me, shoulder to shoulder and started making noises and movement towards me as to antagonize me. My wife grabbed me and we left the restaurant. I am recently retired 20 year Army veteran and I have never been treated like this. I figured for as much as we paid at your restaurant I would not get treated like a bum off the street. Gary is the worst waiter I have ever had in my life and I will not be returning to your restaurant, ever!!!! I am not sure what his problem was. I am also very disappointed that the Manager...

Most denizens of Independence think fondly of Hereford House as one of the better steak houses in the greater KC area--a fine, yet distinctly Midwest dining experience. Unfortunately, this establishment has fallen far in recent years from its former grandeur. The last several times I've eaten here have been atrocious, but I'll stick to our last, and what will be our final visit, before recommending where else you spend your money.

Our last visit had luke warm, obviously old crab cakes served to us. We aren't people who typically complain and reasoned they had left our plate under a heat lamp a little too long. It happens. Then we noticed the length of hair that was clearly not ours packed through the crab cake... were we being served a rejected dish? It's an odd conclusion to jump to, but with the Luke warm temp and how impossibly fast it arrived, we were concerned from literally the moment it was sat down. Which brings me to the lackluster, barely serviceable "service."

Not only did the hosts and wait staff seem annoyed with having to work, but acted like we shouldn't be eating there to begin with giving haughty looks and terse answers. How did they handle the crab cakes situation? Barely. We got a half-hearted "sorry about that" from the waiter and that was it. Other than a replacement which took three times longer than any competent kitchen should take.

The rest of the food? On par with a Dennys who happened upon finer ingredients than they'd typically use. To charge what they did for what we got, and the lacking service, was frustrating. We miss when Hereford House was Hereford House.

Cheddar's, an upscale yet affordable joint, cooks a better steak for about $10-20...

We had dinner tonight and ordered steaks and the steaks were really good. I'm giving 2 stars for the service, our server, Melanie, were not good, she makes us feel like we were Not welcomed, she forgot our appetizer, never refill our water, since we never got our appetizers, we asked for another bread, and she asked us if anything else she can get while she is over there at the kitchen, by her saying while she is over at the kitchen, she makes us feel like we are bothering her, and we said no, and she never came back with the bread, or ask us hows our dinner or ask If my husband wants another drink, which he would want another drink, but she never came back, she passed us over and over to serve another guest but never ask if we needed a drink refill which our glasses were empty. We dined in quite often because we travel, we have never been in a restaurant with this kind of service, Melanie was Not representing Hereford Steakhouse well. The steaks were good, but she makes us not enjoy our food, she did not treat us like a paying client. Which we spent $100 for that dinner. She was very unpleasant server, we did not enjoy our food as we should. I hope she wont treat anyone else like the way she treated us. Melanie was Very Unprofessional. Too bad, we are staying at the Hilton for 3 weeks, and we are not coming back there, we will have to find another steakhouse in the area. I hope that Hereford reads this and do something with Melanie, like some reminder lessons, on how to give an outstanding service. She almost like she was prejudice towards me, that's how she makes me feel. I hope that she will not make any colored person feel like she...
