We got invited out to see a friend place an acoustic show at 317 BBQ in Broad Ripple. Parking on a Friday night in that part of town is ridiculous honestly. We paid to park about 2 blocks away. They do have their own parking lot but it was full.
Once we got in the outdoor space, I realized that it was a covered patio with garage doors that open. I spotted my friend and headed over to the table. It was fairly warm but not unbearable in there. I ordered a róse. Then it was time for the important stuff, the food.
I definitely wanted appetizers so we decided on the deviled eggs( Pickle juice, Sriracha, chive, bourbon-maple bacon jam, smoked paprika )and the bean crock served with Ruffles. I was the only one that wanted the bean crock but it was so good. I’m glad that I ordered it. The deviled eggs were good too. The bourbon maple bacon jam was what made them.
They have different meats and options for the dinner. I wanted to try the brisket and the chicken(half). For sides I did the green beans and potato salad. My husband ordered a sausage(house made jalapeño cheddar beef sausage) and the Gandy Dog. They call it the pit masters snack. It’s a smoked sausage wrapped in a tortilla with yellow mustard. He chose Mac and cheese as a side. I didn’t try that but the Gandy dog was simple but outstanding. I wanted my own.
The brisket was juicy and tender, sliced just the way I like it. Green beans had good flavor and potato salad was solid. The buttermilk biscuits that we ordered had a black pepper honey butter which was something I’d never eaten but would happily do so again. One of the best things on the plates were the house made pickles. I love pickles and this did not disappoint.
We finished up the dinner with banana pudding. Whenever it’s on the menu it’s always something we order. I was too full to fully enjoy it but did have a small bite. I wish I had taken it home and refrigerated it to be super cold. I bet it would have been wonderful but the heat and all the food was making it impossible.
So to sum up 317 BBQ I’d say eat inside to be able to enjoy the food. It’s a personal opinion but I wish we would have. Things would definitely bring me back such as the pickles, bean crock, and the biscuits.
Let me know if you’ve eaten here and if you’d visit again for the pickles 🤣. Until my next meal grab a fork and a knife and get...
Read moreThis place has no servers and seemingly no physical menus. They have you scan a QR code to review the menu and order. This makes group orders almost impossible. We cam with a group for a birthday and it did not work out well. I am assuming the reason for this os because the owners are trying to save money on labor (even though they only pay $2.13/hr and have a sly way to get you to subsidize their poor labor practices we will talk about shortly.) Not having servers probably works great on paper for the owners, but in practice for the customers it is an awful experience. Millenials and Gen Zers can probably work the system well enough but older generations struggle. It took our parents almost 15 mins just to figure out how to get to the menu. Because of the lack of menus and servers we had to order separately. There was an hour in between the time the first food was delivered and the last person's food was delivered. The food it's self is mediocre at best. If you want a drink you have to order it from the QR menu, and sometimes it just doesn't come. If you want a beer that's not in the QR menu though, you have to get up and go to the bar for that. When you order food, drinks, or beer it will automatically select a tip amount of 25% for the server. Explain to me why these servers need more than the average tip amount when they are essentially just kitchen food runners? Very sly, very shady. Maybe pay them better or something idk? Also good luck getting the drinks you order if they aren't beer from the bar and you didn't order it with your food. This was our first time here and we won't be back. I will also be telling others not to come here as well. The QR menu with no servers is the most disrespectful way you can tell your customers and employees you don't care about them you just care about money. Oh and the food pricing is badly overpriced but I'm guessing if you read this far you probably assumed that already. Normally I don't do bad reviews but this place is just...
Read moreChecked this place out a couple weeks ago and took advantage of their semi- enclosed patio seating. Large heaters overhead made me worry that we were about to get cooked out of our seats, but they kept the levels just right to complement the nice weather that day.
We ordered the duo meal with brisket and pork. Sides were horseradish cole slaw, deviled potato salad, and the white cheddar Mac and cheese. I also wanted to try the sausage, so we ordered a single Gandy Dog. We tried the classic, vinegar, and mustard sauces.
Overall a decent meal. The value was good for the amount of food we got. But I felt like everything was just slightly off. The brisket was super fatty, which I understand is a different style choice. It was tasty and beautiful, but got less so as it cooled off. The pork was a little salty, but was tender and juicy, which can be challenging for pulled pork. That sausage, though... that was incredible. Great snap from the casing. Great flavor. The Gandy Dog dressing was okay, but not necessary. I'd eat a pound of this by itself. In my opinion, all of the meats were better without any of the 3 sauces
The sides were all just okay. I was looking forward to some sinus rattling cole slaw, but it only delivered a little bit of that flavor. I'd have enjoyed if they went harder with the horseradish. The Mac and cheese was good, but more clumpy than creamy. The potato salad was good, but again nothing special.
The biscuits and pickles were on point as well. Overall a good meal, but I'd probably just get bulk...
