City Barbeque — Restaurant in Indianapolis

We ordered three Deluxe City Samplers for the first time as take out. Serving five adults for my birthday we were completely overloaded with food with one complete and part of another left and plenty of sides. It is now a week later and my wife and I have almost finished what's left.

The ribs and brisket were so flavorful that no sauce was required. The chicken & pulled pork were both tender and delicious as well and the sauce a nice complement to it. From a sides perspective, the beans, corn pudding, corn bread and mac & cheese all were great. The Texas Toast was really just "ok" but everyone needs somewhere they can make an improvement.

I wasn't looking for a chain restaurant meal, but this was a really exceptional value for the quality and amount of food. March-2019 UPDATE

This is definitely the BEST City BBQ location in Indianapolis. The staff are wonderful, welcoming and empowered to make decisions.

We went vegetarian a little over a year ago and have missed this place terribly. However, they added smoked salmon to the menu for lent so decided to slide slightly into pescatarian and try it out. However, they were out of salmon. They offered to get us salads for free but we declined. As we were about to leave they told us to wait and said they would have some more salmon ready in a few minutes. We waited and they comp'd us drinks and really went out of their way to apologize (which they really didn't need to).

I cannot say enough good things about this location. I hope they continue to have lots of success into the future and perhaps include some non-meat options so we can return to a place...

Today was our first time visiting City Barbeque in downtown, and unfortunately, it will also be our last. I went with my children, and the entrance door was unlocked and wide open, which led us to believe the restaurant was open. We walked in and stood near the back to look at the menu for about two minutes.

A gentleman from the back of the restaurant eventually told us they were closed, so we politely apologized and began walking out. As we were leaving, a Hispanic man wearing pink headphones suddenly began yelling across the kitchen, saying things like “people can’t read” and “how ignorant people are.” His tone was loud, rude, and completely uncalled for—especially in front of children.

He then came out of the kitchen and continued to speak directly at us with the same disrespectful attitude. I turned around and told him there was no need to speak to us in that manner. We had simply walked into an open business unaware they had closed.

To make matters worse, another employee with dreadlocks also made comments about how “dumb” we were, and only then did someone who may have been a manager step in and attempt to apologize. By then, the damage had already been done—we felt insulted, embarrassed, and completely disrespected.

This was an extremely disappointing experience, and I would never recommend this location to anyone. We didn’t even get to try the food, but based on how we were treated, I can’t imagine trusting the service or the environment. Customer service matters, and this was unacceptable on every level. If I could give zero...

I came in late on Friday evening. I must tell you the staff at this location was getting just absolutely HAMMERED with incoming orders! As I stood waiting to place my order, the printer in front of me just kept spitting out online orders. It was literally one after the other! There were so many orders and they were so backed up the young lady couldn’t take my order until they got somewhat caught up.There were people in front of me waiting for food and behind me waiting to order. At one point they yelled out of Turkey, then sausage and all desserts. I came for the smoked turkey :( At one point I think another employee came in to help out as there were now 2 customer service girls. Once I could order, and in the meantime I had noticed the one young lady she had been trying to hold it together by herself while the remainder staff including management was filling orders as fast as they could possibly move. Her name is Shae. (not sure if I spelled that right). She has been working the last few times I have been there and I feel like she and the rest of the staff are amazing! I wanted to recognize them and say THANK YOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB! I ended up purchasing chicken which was amazing and everything else was too!! If you read my review and If you order from or visit this downtown City bbq, please be patient with this team when ordering. Talk to them NICELY if they make a mistake and they will fix it right away!!! I saw it for myself, they are hard workers and are doing the very best they can ….and then some...
