Friend’s Diner — Restaurant in Indianapolis

I went with friends for a late lunch yesterday. I had the Beef Manhattan with mashed potatoes and green beans. My Manhattan was a couple of open faced pieces of toasted bread with big chunks of dry roast beef covered with a scant amount of brown gravy, there were about 1/4 cup of unseasoned canned green beans and a1/4 cup of mashed potatoes with a small amount of brown gravy. I asked for a little more brown gravy to try to moisten the meat and I was told that there would probably be an up charge. I said but there wasn't enough gravy to begin with. I asked how much would the up charge be? She said she would check, she came back with what looked like 2 Tablespoons of gravy and sat it on the table, I asked again what the up charge was and she said $1.50. I said I don't want it then, she said she already added it to the bill. I had expected her to come back with the amount before bringing the gravy. I've never had a server do that before. I told her that small amount of extra gravy wasn't worth that and she agreed that I hadn't received enough gravy to begin with and the $1.50 charge was too much. But still she refused to take the gravy back. She blamed her manager. The friends I were with didn't want to fight it and said they would pay it. I've eaten at Friend's Dine Indy many times in the past couple of years and I have taken many friends to eat there. I have reccomended to several people but after yesterday I don't think that I'll be reccomending them. The restroom was dirty, low on toilet paper and the Handicap stall was out of order. Called to place a order got put on hold for 20 mins hung up called back 15 times no answer sent someone to get lunch they came back with a soup no crackers when we ask for crackers so I went back to get crackers when I did I call the phone it was still on hold from when they place me on hold hour ago they had no clue the phone wasn’t working and pretty sure y’all loss money on call in orders on top of that I get my new soup with crackers and got a fork I asked for a spoon they don’t have to go spoons whattttttt so why do u sell to go soup ??? How am I going to eat a soup with a fork should have just put it in a cup and gave me a straw at this point!!! I then ask for the manager but guess what there wasn’t a manager available no one was in charge so I ask for a refund the lady that don’t even brush her hair before work came up being highly rude and telling me if I don’t stop talking she not giving me my refund because she was off at 2pm etc she was more worried about getting off the clock then helping a paying customer!! My biggest thing is how do u sell soup with no spoon and then get mad at the guest cuz they want a spoon!!! I also have a recording and would love to share with the higher ups and I would also love for someone above these ladies and not related to them to call me! I visited this location with my (small) family. We were so excited to try it as it was similar to a favorite restaurant that relocated. We were so disappointed. We walked into a very open room. Everything is almost like you're sitting in a cafeteria, table by table. Not a big deal, but not the most inviting. There is one waitress taking care of every table except the one we were sat at. The other waitress, nowhere to be found. Waitress #1 had to go find her. This is the sort of service we experienced the remainder of our visit. No utensils, no menus, Disappearing and having to be brought out from waitress #1. When we finally got our order placed, the food was mixed up on the plates. At this point, it's similar so let's go with it because we are hungry and have already been there almost an hour. (There were not many people other than us.) The food was okay, but they forgot part of the meal for my husband and then added it to the bill when the menu said it was included with the meal. It was brought up to the waitress, she was disinterested, and waitress #1 ended up helping us fix it. Overall, the food was mediocre, which was a shame.
