These people need an attitude adjustment! I NEVER liked going to Mississippi Belle. For years my friends would insist on going on a Sunday, after church. The place is just too small for their popularity--and they are popular. More on their attitude in a bit.
My family went there just before Thanksgiving to do a food tasting to see if we wanted to have Thanksgiving dinner catered this year. I'll just say, we did up catering from the Belle, but we won't ever do it again. So there's that.
The tables are too close together--such that when they run the food out on carts, You sometimes have to move to let them through. That's IF they give you a heads up. It's not unlikely to get hit with a pair of hips or buttocks while you're in mid-bite on a piece of their good chicken.
The food is decent. Less whelming for me because I'm a part of a family with really good soul food cooks--including me (**clears throat). If you are just hard up, and I do mean hard up for good soul food, give the place a try. Weekdays are less busy but the menu is slightly adjusted down.
Ok, the attitude. It's my biggest complaint about so many of the restaurants run by ethnic peoples. It pains me to say this but I'mma just tell it like it is. They're just too commonly--RUDE.
This place, when they take your order, even when the words are polite, the mood, tone, and body language are basically saying: Hurry up and tell me what you want and you better not piss me off--I ain't got time for you today!
You ever watched The Wizard of Oz? When they finally get in to see the Wizard? You remember how you felt when you first saw how rude and mean he was to poor and desperate lil Dorothy--and her friends? Well Mississippi Belle is the Wizard. If you're not careful, you may find yourself feeling like you need to bow or be overly gracious in your please and thank you's.
Before asking for extra napkins, you may catch yourself feeling like you just want to advise your whole table to just use your sleeves! Or, you may come to regret drinking so generously after you need that third refill. If I were you, just remember how good the first two drinks were! That third drink, is probably coming down on that table with a point to be understood!
They are the same way when they answer the phone. It's like you are there for them to do you a favor. I feel like for the way they act, they should be paying ME!
That attitude has been consistent since my very first time there, some twenty years ago. I've been away from Indiana for over 15 years and my last time being at Mississippi Belle had to have been at least 18 years ago. I was amazed that 1. They were just as tiny and 2. Still mean.
You can go if you want to; I'm never going back. I'd be a...
Read moreWe ate here Mother’s day Weekend. (Saturday) the waiter forgot about us. to be fair we did move to the next table over but she literally disappeared. We ordered smothered chicken, fried chicken, greens, mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, n sweet potatoes. It was mother’s day dinner so I took the “not so pretty” piece of chicken breast, (let mom have the nice ones) some greens n mashed potatoes. The sweet potatoes looked mashed (despite the waiter saying they weren’t) i ended up passing on those. my husband had smothered chicken. we also ordered 3 slices of “chess pie”
after i pieced my chicken two times, i had to stop eating it. it tasted old. like maybe they put the chicken in a bin after they fry it, and that piece was at the bottom of the bin for like 3 days. they were busy so maybe they finally got to the bottom of the bin and grabbed it and gave it to our table. i’m not sure. anyway, i ended up asking mom for one of the normal looking pieces, that look kind of like what you would get from Kroger and it tasted like chicken. Within 35 min i was in the bathroom, sweating, throwing up, and pooping at the same time. i’m glad they had 2 trash cans in the bathroom. i felt like i was about to pass out. I ate a bagel from panera bread that morning other than that i was perfectly fine all day until after i ate that piece of chicken. my husband had to help walk me to the bathroom i felt so sick. it felt like someone had kicked me in the stomach and then poured liquid peppermints in my veins. my shirt was soaked. i was burning up. i was down for the rest of the night and felt exhausted most of the day on Sunday. It was my first and last time eating there. The greens were ok and the mashed potatoes i had were edible, i didn’t even try anything else because i fell sick. The next day i looked at the “chess” pie and it was laughable. whoever made that need to stop. It looked like a gel, like a yellow gel out the can. it was runny. lol Ms Pearl makes the best chess pies I ever had in my life. whatever that was, they need to stop serving it. I didn’t dare eat it. We threw it away. I was the only person that had the “ugly” piece of chicken which is why i’m probably the only one that got sick. My mom and husband both had greens and mac n cheese, mashed potatoes and other items and were fine. They have to really step their game up if people are getting sick in there. I told my sister what happened and she said i am the 4th person to tell her that they have fallen sick over a short period of time....
Read moreThe owner/manager, whoever he is, I believe his name is Jay, was very rude and non-accommodating. I heard about his unpleasant demeanor in the past, but chose to have my own experience. One of the guests we invited also shared a negative experience they had and why they had not been there in months. Anyway, I asked him for seating for six of which 2 ppl were a few mins away (had to stop to get cash). He informed us we had to wait until they got there. I could “halfway” understand if the place was full, but at least 1/2 the restaurant seats were available. (He did allow one of the gentlemen who was on a cane to sit in one of the open seats) He shared that other restaurants do not allow you to sit until all guests arrive. I let him know that has not been my experience on several occasions and with various restaurants, but it’s his restaurant and rule. After waiting a couple of mins, I told him I would pay for the extra two seats if they didn’t show up (I knew they would), we just wanted to get seated. The look, his demeanor! The only reason I stayed is because I knew my guests had another appointment. Not that he cares, but I will not frequent this establishment again unless it’s under new management. Plus, the food was not what “we” expected. My guests shared the same sentiments. I hope he shows others it’s not just about their money and makes them feel like a valuable customer,...
