It breaks my heart to leave this low of a score as I've been going to Prufrock since it opened. Ever since the change of ownership though, the quality of the coffee and more importantly the SIZE of their coffees have gone way down. They no longer offer a 20 oz drink option yet still charge the same amount as the old owners for only a 12 oz cup. No self serve drop anymore either. Flavored drinks are inconsistent and I suspect it's b/c a lot of baristas seem very young and inexperienced while also working completely alone. It's not safe to have employees working solo as it is, as it increases their likelihood to be targeted for theft or worse. The food offerings from an outside vendor are delicious but I often find they're low or out of stock early in the morning. I like the new canned iced drink machine but I'd preferred if they invested in the larger drink options and better training on how to make the drinks to be honest. Today's iced salted Carmel latte was extremely bitter and hardly any syrup flavor even though I watched her add it. Not sure what's going on but I hope this feedback helps them address some of it. I want this location to succeeded as it is beloved in the Sobro neighborhood and one of the only shops open very early in the morning!
Update to lower score once again: ordered a blueberry muffin today and asked for it to be heated up. When I received it the center was half frozen/icey blueberries and only the top crumb layer was warm. It's extremely obvious that ownership cares more about expanding into Carmel and food trucks than proving adequate equipment to prepare their food in Sobro. Maybe it's just training on how long to heat these items but regardless, it creates a poor experience. It was also an ICE BOX in there today when it's only 60 degrees and...
Read moreThis is the most expensive coffee shop I have ever visited. I always order a quad shot latte with a syrup and oatmilk and have never paid more than $8 at a time. My fiancé got the same drink as I did and for it to come out as $23? No food or pastry, just 2 lattes. That is insane. At Ascend coffee, my exact latte costs $7-8, not over $11. The cup size here was maybe 10oz, tiny and it was not anything special. I had been here once before and ordered the same way to try and see if it got any better and it didn’t. For this shop, I had asked for a hot, quad shot latte with oatmilk and ube syrup both times and it seems like the baristas they have are not experienced because they assume a different syrup without confirming before making. I ended up getting their specialty Ube mango tropical latte when I specifically said just ube. There’s a lot to improve on here. Highly recommend this place work on their pricing and probably train their baristas more with communicating and understanding the register especially when their tiny sized lattes aren’t worth over $11 a pop. On top of this, their atmosphere is not ideal or even welcoming. It is quiet and I mean quiet. No music at all- the silence is deafening. It feels almost too uncomfortable to even talk to someone in there because everyone would hear. People have been saying since the shop switched ownerships, it has gone downhill. I can 100% agree. We will not be...
Read moreNew owners are hitting it out of the park. I'm a total coffee snob and I'll be very critical if I get a bad cup of coffee. I ordered an Americano and was pleased with the result. It was ever so slightly overextracted and I didn't even pick up on it until the end of the cup....otherwise it was great. I liked the ceramic cups. Nice touch and a step up from what I was expecting for sure.
You could tell they are just getting started and I was impressed with the level of attention. I ordered a bagel and they weren't going to give it to me because it was sliced crooked. I'm picky about my coffee, but I'll stuff a bagel into my pie hole regardless of how it's cut...so I made them give it to me.
The place is really cozy and I could easily see it as a spot where I would hang out for a couple of hours just because it's so...
