Where to start! Sooo me and my partner went to this cozy spot for an early lunch (1130 am)...we were excited after reviewing the menu for 2 weeks (can you say no decisive?)...flash forward...we seat ourselves (self seating establishment) the waitress was super sweet and accomadating by cleaning our table to ensure it was suitable....we ordered the Big Ben Burger w/ Tots, and the traditional wings (spicy teriyaki and jerk sauce) {for my partner}...and Shepards pie, Buffalo Mac w/ blackened chicken, and fried pickles {for me}...[FYI, I'm a fatty and wanted to try as much as I could handle 😂]....I gave 3 stars because the place was clean, had a few very good tv selections playing, good music, 2 nice (and attractive cooks😁😁) and hearty portions (as far as the entrees)...Why didnt it get 5 stars..welllll, the Big Ben was HUGE a whole lot of food, however it wasnt very flavorful...the meat wasnt well seasoned and the chili was a bit bland. The Buffalo Mac was hearty portion wise but very basic in taste, not worth the 13.99 and the blackened chicken was regular chicken cubes. The Shepards pie was damn near perfect except it was warm (I like my food hot) and they used a sauce similar to sloppy joe on the ground beef (not a sloppy Joe fan)..despite that I liked that it! They have coke products for their beverages btw. His wings were cooked perfectly but the Jerk sauce was basic, now that Spicy Teriyaki was delish!!! We were very happy with the taste. To.end our meal we ordered an Elephant ear...the pastry was cooked fresh so it was warm just the way we like. The cinnamon powdered sugar was so so regular powdered would have been nice but over all it was GREAT! The place was warm (which was good since it was rainy and cold) and the server made it all worth it. Overall def try this little spot. I will be returning to try other entrees such as the bangers...
Read more4 stars because their dinner menu is solid and the service is always really good.
However, the new breakfast is a miss. They are charging $10.50 for a bacon, egg and cheese bagel. It’s the most expensive bagel sandwich in the city of Indianapolis (I checked, this is a fact.)
Additionally, their menu pricing is messed up. The sandwiches are more expensive than if you ordered a la carte. I tried ordering a bagel for $3 then add bacon for $2, egg for $2 and cheese for $1 ($8 total) but they wouldn’t let me, despite those options being on the menu (pretty sure this isn’t legal). It’s the same for the combo “deal”. $14 for an egg and cheese bagel with hash browns and a coffee. But if you order all those things a la carte, it’s $11.50.
I commented on their IG post with these discrepancies and they deleted all comments and locked the post.
Don’t get these bagels. Go directly next door and get a bacon egg and cheese sandwich from Easy Rider for $7, a reasonable price for the product.
EDIT: In response to Red Lion’s snarky comments about getting a bagel vs a sandwich. Here are the prices for a bacon, egg and cheese elsewhere in Indy- Broad Ripple Bagel Deli $7.95, Bearded Bagel $8.55, Sidedoor $9.50, Java House $5.35.
But sure, focus on it being round bread not square bread, instead of the high price and price discrepancy that was pointed out to you before the launch day. You even changed menus but didn’t fix it after deleting my IG comment. I even tried messaging you privately first to quietly bring up the issue. But instead you ignored it, deleted my comment and chose to respond here with a snarky reply.
Good luck with the most expensive bagel sandwich in...
Read moreGrew up in downtown Indy. Been going here my whole life but came back while on leave from across the country since I don’t get to come home often and decided to introduce my wife to it. Not the same as it used to be. I know the economy isn’t doing great but please explain what world it makes sense to pay 10 dollars for 1 scotch egg unless each piece of it is decently sized. Shepards pie was good but still felt like a small portion. Half order of fish and chips was very good. Strongly recommend it. Wife got the portobellos mushroom which was extremely over seasoned and was kinda disgusting. Also some of her food was downright cold. I cannot get over the 10 dollar egg. It sucks that our experience was immediately bogged down by that especially because I had been hyping it up to my wife before we got there. Came here last year too, Completely different experience. Didn’t have a single problem and normally I never leave a restaurant upset or slightly mad but for what we got it just feels like a giant waste of money. Also the server didn’t even bother to introduce himself, make small talk, or even act polite. It was a Saturday night and the entire restaurant was empty by the time me and my wife left and the whole time we were there they were blaring very poorly mixed music that made no since being mixed together. Also it’s a British food/bar. Why am I hearing Michael Jackson’s beat it and then Lizzo all within the span of 30 seconds only to make a poor transition to...
