Lola's Restaurant & Lounge — Restaurant in Irving

I have been going here for some time but I’ll have to stop due to these reasons.

1. The food is hit or miss. Some days it’s great and other days I wonder why I paid so much. The rice can be dry.
2. They rarely have ripe plantain with the food. Most times it’s just hard or you can tell it was pre-made days ago and just warmed up. Ripe plantain literally does not take long to quickly fry so it amazes me why the plantain at least can’t be great all the time.
3. The assorted beef or goat meat is tough. My non Nigerian friends complain about the toughness all the time. Sometimes it’s soft but most times you’ll need patience to get through it.
4. The Oha soup the times I’ve tried it is just overly oily.
5. The ambiance is depressing honestly. It’s so dark and the furniture is mismatched like many random people donated old furniture and they just threw it together.
6. The pricing ive noticed is usually inconsistent. Sometimes I’ve got the Jollof for a certain price and other times it’s higher but it would literally be the same exact order. I’ve watched this happen several times. So I would ask why the price is changing and they would say the same thing. No it didn’t change it has been that same price. What?
7. Service is so slow. I would place my order as I’m leaving my home knowing I would still wait. My friend and I even place bets. I would call and they would say 10 mins. 17 mins away I would place the order and when I get there I would wait. I’ve always won this bet because the food has never been ready when they say it will be.

This place used to be great. And has steadily declined. I’ll go with the various other options next time. Lots of up and coming places with better ambiance, pricing and professionalism. Also please spend some time in training your employees on service provision. When someone calls they shouldn’t say “ehen what do you want?” And never actually ask the name on the order or a phone number or anything to identify who’s ordering. Just please make changes and represent Nigerians better....

So when you decide to order meals outside doesn’t mean you don’t know how to cook, sometimes you just need to take off that stress from you n let someone else do it all n you enjoy it, but after today please make sure you do your research well before trying someone especially for parties, I contracted this people for my get together party and I must say I totally regret spending that money ,every food I ordered was a zero over 10. Except moi moi. The vegetable was almost going bad before the party even started just 2hrs after I picked up. It looked so stale n black like it was made weeks ago n was warmed over n over🙄🙄🙄,🥺jellof rice was an apology, you can imagine ordinary jellof that I make with my eyes closed n it’s perfecto, those who are very close to me asked me why the hell I didn’t cook myself cos this was thrash.i totally regret it and she had audacity to tell me she has been a professional for 15 years🙄🙄🙄and knows the best advice for her clients, durrr to people who dnt know what they want you can dish ur dumb advice to them ok, just learn to listen to your customers n do exactly what they want .anyway i need to stop ranting, i will never try them or go there ever ,please do your research well before trying out stuff especially for...

The menu doesn’t reflect the correct price and even though it said $5 I was charged $10 for the suya, the food wasn’t hot, they were literally out of everything except beef. They were supposed to close at 9 so we got there at about 7:50p, didn’t order until 8:20p. When I got my plate it had 3 cubes of beef & 2 cups of rice. If I have to pay $14 for food I would prefer to have a little more meat b/c rice is not $14. On top of that when I actually tasted one of the 3 beef cubes the meat was very dry, so dry the sauce didn’t help I had high hopes but was very disappointed ☹️. Also the “bartender” was discounting food and charging half price for the actual “Africans” that we’re there which is why I feel like he changed the prices on me 1st saying $25, then $26, and ultimately charged me $28 for one plate of food, a small side of suya, 1 meat pie, 1 can drink & a loaf of bread. Moral of the story is if you’re African they will take care of you if you’re not African they will charge you for what they didn’t charge the Africans. Smh. I would recommend trying M&B lounge in Arlington if you’re looking for good African food & to actually be able to order what you want...
